Changing carrier after ticketing
 

I am currently booked on CX105 from HKG to MEL. I have since seen that this flight stops in ADL on the way to MEL:( If I change to the QF flight the next morning, which is still within my 24hour window to avoid airport taxes, do I need to pay the $125 reticketing fee?

The ticket is AA issued, and I wouldn't be changing the cities- still HKG-MEL.

The ticket does not need to be reissued but does need to be revalidated. There is no OW fee for revalidation, but the various OW airlines have started to impose fees for this if they did not issue the ticket originally. So you would have to go to the AA office in HKG for a free revalidation (or maybe RTW desk can do this on the phone), or pay the CX fee at the airport (HKD 300, I think).

Does QF now have skybeds on all HKG-MEL flights? When I last checked (year ago) only CX had all-skybed service into MEL. So the choice might be beds on CX with a stop in ADL vs. no bed on QF but non-stop on a day flight. I try to fly at night whenever possible, to save the daytime for cities.

Thanks for teh quick replies. I thought that I would be able to change without the fee, so glad to hear that I can. If I do indeed change the flight to QF, I'll try the AA RTW desk first and see if they can do it- though with 20 sectors, I'll have a paper ticket (I haven't collected it from AA in CMB yet).

All QF30 flights do have Skybeds since its a 744 aircraft ;) .

I don't see why the CX fee would be relevant - it's whatever fee QF would charge since that's the airline you'd be checking in for.

Personally I have never been asked for a "revalidation fee" when turning up for a flight on a different carrier from that on the coupon (most recently BA instead of AA at LAX last December, which was long after BA has its GBP25 handling fee). I would be absolutely furious to be charged again for using a ticket within the terms of the contract.

I'm not sure, but I think that, technically, you are possibly up for addtional HKG airport tax.
