Advice Needed, RIO-JNB seg

Hi all, I'm looking for options on getting from RIO to JNB. I'd rather not go back above the equator if I can avoid it and all I can see is going via SYD. Is there a shorter way or some way to get across the South Atlantic?

Also, is there a good option for inter-Africa flights?

Not on OW.

There is a MH flight from Buenos Aires to Cape Town, I have seen the 747 standing around in EZE a couple of times.

And South African has a direct flight GRU-JNB.

On OW, if you want to avoid passing the Equator you might try LA to New Zealand, then QF and CX, although I do not think that this was what you were looking for. ;)

And that involves CX where exactly?

I assumed that he meant QF or CX.

The shortest way is IB, GIG-MAD-JNB, although you will cross the equator, twice..;). Another possibility is BA through LHR. Both routes are a great deal shorter than going over the Pacific.
