Too many miles, no problem...add a crazy segment at the end
 

Just an observation

If you are planning a OneWorld mileage based trip and you find you have just gone past the threshold for number of miles required then you can add a crazy segment at the end to reduce the number of miles.

SEA-DFW is 1644
SEA-DFW-DEN is 1023

Of course this only works well if you live in a hub like DFW and you just get of the airplane there.

Anyone else thought of this or have examples?

While that may work for AAdvantage One World awards, it certainly will not work for QFF One World awards.

Its a great trick and I have used it before on the AA oneWorld awards. Good to use also if you need to miss an open-jaw.

Say you've already open-jawed on your trip originating in BOS, but you want to end up in SFO. If you were to officially end your trip in SFO, you'd be breaking rules, but if you fly through SFO-BOS then just get off in SFO you can accomplish it. Of course, in this scenario you'd have to be under your mileage threshold.

Um, maybe this thread should be deleted... before someone decides to change OW awards to measure distance between connections and not distance between stopovers. The award is already sweeter than most anything the competition offers, so why abuse it? I'd hate to see it taken away.
