Stop-over 24hrs or 4hrs?
 

I'm trying to book a DONE3 ticket starting inTPE. I will make two stop-overs in HKG at the begining and end of the trip. In the middle i'm planning to book JFK-HKG-DPS with CX. The travel agent is saying that i can only book CX889 arriving at 7.30am connecting to CX785 departing at 10.05am. (stop-over less than 4 hrs.)
I was trying to book CX831 from JFK and arrive in HK at 7.55pm the night before, before connecting the following morning to CX785 at 10.05am. (stopover less than 24hrs)
Travel agent is saying that you need to take the most direct connection. I thought that as long as you don't stay longer than 24 hrs you will be ok as this is not considered a stop-over?

Can someone let me know their experience?

Up to 24 hours is a transfer not a stopover. Sounds like travel agent is getting confused with domestic stopover/transfer rules.

Agreed - your TA is wrong. For the purposes of OneWorld tickets anything less than 24 hours is OK (other tickets - eg awards - have different rules).

I have done something very similar to what you propose with an ex-TPE DONE4 which went TPE-xHKG-SYD-xHKG-LHR-<USA>-xHKG-oCEB-oHKG-TPE where all three of those xHKGs included me having a night at home in bed.

That ticket was booked direct with CX in TPE. Is there some particular reason why you are using a TA and not just going direct to CX?

I'm using corporate travel agent (Farrington in HK). Have told them to check with CX.

I've found the rules of RTWs to be so complicated that only a few people are good at booking them. I've booked mine directly with AA RTW Desk (800) 247-3247 then tranferred to a TA to do the final ticketing when ticketing outside the USA. I've also been successful booking by fax directly with CX.

TA in TPE

Indeed - I have a good friend who is a senior TA running the team providing travel support to one of the biggest investment banks in HK. And she calls me when she has a tricky question on the OWE rules :)
