starting Done4 USA, end UK
 

Hi folks, hope someone will be kind enought to help.

I am based in the UK, and am using some virgin miles to fly out to USA (a one way reward ticket). I then want to pick up my Done4 in the USA, say at JFK. Heading west around the world, my return flights to USA would likely stop over in the UK/Europe at LHR/other? Is there any way to stop off at this point in LHR, and throw the remainder of the ticket away, thereby avoiding paying for Europe as a continent. All of this allows me to include Latin America instead of Europe (which I have travelled well), without adding an extra continent.

My main concern is through checked baggage?

Can anyone suggest how to do this? Is it possible?

There is no way to avoid paying for Europe on an OWE.

Buy a oneway ticket from USA to Asia. Buy another oneway ticket from Asia to London.

Honestly this is the first time I've heard of anyone wanting to fly to the USA in order to buy a DONE4 here, given that it's one of the most expensive places in the world to do so (a little less than the UK it's true.)

If you fly to Sweden or Gibraltar and start a DONE4 there, you'll save around GBP1200 compared to starting in the US or the UK, and you won't have to worry about separate transatlantic tickets, award or otherwise, at the beginning or end.

As for trying to bypass Europe on an xONEx, resistance is futile.

I agree with Gardyloo about cost, etc. And note also that by starting in Europe then your continent-of-origin stopover limit of 2 applies to Europe (which you don't want to visit anyway) rather than North America.

So it looks like Gibralter could be the best start point. Really what I wanted was to do australia/NZ, Asia, N.America and Latin America. Maybe I'll stretch to 5 continents instead? Or save Latin America for another time (my next Done4?? ;) )


Been working on a route. I recently had a dream about flight routes, where I just couldn't get a connection and woke up really angry - quite bizarre!!

Am I the only person on here to have dreams about flight route planning?
