help with ow reward 180k aa miles for 20k in first

I would like to use 180k AA miles for a mini rtw in First. I would like to leave from DFW-BKK-DXB-LHR-DFW. my question is how to get from Asia to Europe with a stop In DXB on a one world carrier in F?

Looking at the great circle mapper, just going point to point for those four segments would put you over 20,000 miles - so might pose a bit of an issue. Apart from that, on oneworld the only option from BKK-DXB direct is on CX on a 2 class flight.

From the looks of the schedule from HKG-DXB there's three flights a week that have a first class cabin, the rest are all two class flights (others can confirm I'm sure for this). Backtracking from BKK back to HKG will put you even further over your mileage limit I'd imagine.

Not if HKG is a connection instead of a stopover.

Yeah, 20200+ according to the GCM. Could you live with coming back to ORD or somewhere else?

Yes I can return somewhere else. Thanks for the help all. I think this will work. dfw-bkk-hkg-dxb-lhr-mia Using aa and cx to bkk and dxb,ba to lhr and aa back to mia. the circle mapper gives me 19889

Current AA forum wisdom says that CX FC award availability is extremely difficult to get of late. Let us know how you go.

More accurately, it is hard to get months in advance (zeroed out for all the prime routes/flights/dates for the next 12 months -- probably CX's strategy to satisfy their own FF demand first). It is easy to get as single seats within the next week or 2 ... bit harder (but possible) for a month out. So basically you cannot plan long term flights on award CX F, but can use it on the spur of the moment (even the most desirable routes/flights/dates always seem to have Z inventory 3 days before the flight). But lots of people are not comfortable with planning their trip 3 days out, and not longer.

Apologies if I sound like a spoil sport, but isn't the OP's question better posed in the AA forum? Also the OP is likely to get a better range of answers.

huh

The OP is asking for help with OneWorld award, not AA award.

NO!!!!!! Despite the name, it is an Aadvantage award, with rules determined by AA -- and those rules are completely different from the Oneworld award rules as issued by QFF or BAEC, etc. Perhaps typical of Oneworld, that the Oneworld award isn't actually common across Oneworld or belonging to Oneworld. The OP's question is highly specific to AA.

christep Aug 27, 2006 7:39 am

In that case why is one of the stickies in this forum specifically about AA's OneWorld awards? I can see that the OP would very reasonably think it to be a valid topic for discussion here given the presence of that sticky.

agree ...plus the fact that the OP posted "my question is how to get from Asia to Europe with a stop In DXB on a one world carrier in F"... surely what the OP asked is better answered here than elsewhere?

I'm not sure I understand why that sticky is here. If there was a sticky explaining how to spend BA EC miles on CX flights, should I look for that in the CX forum?

I suggest a Solomonic answer to this "homeless sticky" dilemma could be the following:

(a) delete any reference to "AA miles" from the title.
(b) account for the differences between airlines within the text.
(c) leave it here.

Probably because technicalities made way to pragmitism. How many times can you say, "look at the AA forum"? It was done because it's reasonable (imo) for people to think of the Oneworld Forum when they are looking at a Oneworld ticket, irrespective of where they are taking out the miles and irrespective of whether they are correct in doing so. So the cost to the regulars of this forum who don't read the AA forum (like me) is to get "please help me with a Oneworld Award" "go read the AA forum", and the cost to the people needing help is that the people on this forum are, in my experience, generally more patient and understanding and know the routes of all the carriers a heck of a lot better.

No one asked, but my opinion is to leave it alone or make a few minor changes to make it alliance wide. It's not hurting anything or anyone and I see a benefit coming out of it, specifically lessening the signal to noise ratio of the group.
