help with RTW for late nov early dec
 

a freind of mine wants to go rtw for her 50th. shge would start in paris and end in london and would probably pay in GBP, unless i can book heer in the states for her

places she needs to visit

paris-NewYork for a few days hen on to toronto and from there to belize, or just belize if toronto is not possible.
then to sydney then back to London.

looking at all the threads is this considered 3 continenents as I believe belize, toronto and new york are all north america

The RTW needs to start and finish in the same country. If need to start in France then just make the last flight between London and Paris for some later date (within a year of first flight).

A RTW starting in France gets charged the French price in Euros.

Any xONEx RTW including australia or NZ must be a 4 continent at a minimum - the return through asia is treated as an additional continent even if no stopover in asia.

Economy, business, first?

Does she have status or loyalties on any airline/alliance?

Reason being, while OW offers the most flexibility and mileage-earning opportunities, if her itinerary is relatively simple, a 29,000 mile Star Alliance RTW might be somewhat cheaper.

She'd probably have to originate in someplace like Copenhagen or Stockholm if the pricing posted in WearyBizTravlr's spreadsheet (see price sticky above) is still current when she starts, but for example CPH-LHR-YYZ-CLT-BZE-CLT-LAX-SYD-SIN-CPH is only 27,000 mi and change. She could find an inexpensive ticket to get to CPH and back at the start/end.

Otherwise starting in France (for both Oneworld and Star) is relatively expensive compared to other origin points relatively nearby.

The exception to this is if she's riding in economy, in which case originating in Britain is probably the cheapest alternative (but NOT for business/first.)

But the itinerary is certainly doable using either alliance.

they don't have any airline alliance. But will travel with us via train rom London to paris, for a couple of days. we are on an AA flight from CDG to JFK, so thought that was easiest starting point. probably enconomy.

Per the most recent spreadsheet info -

Oneworld Explorer 4-continent, economy - bought in UK GBP 1389 or 1449 (depending on month purchased.) Bought in France, EUR 2349 (around GBP 1628.) Both plus tax and fuel surcharges.

Star Alliance, 29,000 mi economy bought in UK, GBP 1409; in France EUR 2399 (~GBP 1647.)

The OW Explorer would allow more flexibility and lots more travel if she wants to do so - internal flights in Oz, Asia, N. America, etc. 20 flights max.

I tried planning this using the tool on the one worls timetable and it appears we have too many segemnts in north america

paris-jfk
ewr to toronto via boston
toronto to belize via Mia
belize to to sydney via mia and lax
this comes to 7 doemstic segements which is not allowed.

any idears

You have to include BOS? AA has a non-stop JFK-YYZ service.

EWR-BOS-YYZ
YYZ-MIA-BZE
BZE-MIA-LAX

That looks like 6 to me. What is the 7th segment?

And , by the way, you can fly direct from LGA or JFK to YYZ, so wouldn't it be easier to go there rather than transit BOS (which adds at least 2.5 hours to the journey and more on most itineraries)?

Perhaps you're counting the CDG-JFK flight as a N. America segment? Intercontinental flights don't count against the continent totals, just against the 20.

JFK-YYZ is all on Eagle; LGA-YYZ has mainline flights.

PS - the RTW planner in the OW electronic timetable is seriously buggy.
