Yes, class "U" (business award) is common for LA and AA (among others). I would call again, asking for a specific flight, as shown on lan.com.

If you are using AA for your routing wouldn't it be easier to just call AA rep. and ask for it? Maybe you should consider going on a round-the-world, just to make the alliance happy..=D
