Anyone else having issues with this?

I have an itinery I had been working on that I cannot open now. I get a message saying "01/08/2006 is not a valid date"

Have had this issue since the last update.

I've sent an email off to OneWorld and will get back to you all with outcome

European v. US dating? 1/8/06 = January 8 or August 1.

where would I set which date I want to use?

Just use the USA format

I just looked at the planner again (newly downloaded update) and it seems seriously buggy. It keeps counting land segments as flights, it seems to use Global Explorer stopover rules instead of Oneworld Explorer - so I wouldn't trust it for much of anything at the moment.

If you want to post a possible itinerary here, people will be happy to critique it.

I dont think the date format is a setting you can change. I wouldn't care what the date format is, but DD/MM/YYYY is the default that is used once I installed it and its not allowing me to open saved itineraries. :confused:

This is the first of two 3 month RTW, one in 2007 and another in 2008. This is a compromise from a two 12 month RTW my wife and I were planning. Sat down one day to work out costs and such and was frightened by the opportunity cost of going away for 2 years. :D

The LONE4 in 2008 should be SWP-NAM-EUR-ASA-SWP.

I am in 2 minds as to where to credit, QF or AA. Current routing favours QF, but 2008 routing should favour AA.

My only comment so far is that KUL-HKG-SIN is a bit of a waste of two coupons which you could probably better use in South America. You have already visited HKG previously, and KUL-SIN is either a cheap LCC flight or the train (if you are into that sort of thing).

To do all of those places in SAM you may have to buy one or two extra segments - which you can do so long as you stay under 20 in total (another reason for not wasting 2 on KUL-HKG-SIN).

Are the destinations listed just for the 1st RTW trip you are planning?

As Christep has mentioned there are a plethora of LCC's that operate within SE Asia which, if you need to get around in between the likes of KL, HK, BKK and SIN will provide sufficient means of transport for a very, very competitive price - Although in my experience you need to book tickets 30+ days in advance to take advantage...

It looks as though the only reason for going to HKG the second time is to get from KUL to SIN? If so, then it'd be far more convenient to look at Air Asia as they operate out of KUL, or consider taking one of the 'VIP' busses, which take about 4-5 hours to do the journey.

As for South America, a routing of SCL-LPB//LIM-GRU-EZE-SCL would allow you to visit many of the sights you've mentioned you wish to see - the major excepetion being Easter Island which will require 2 spare coupons (Which, as mentioned by christep you could purchase providing your itinerary totals less than 18 segments thereby keeping within the 20 segment limit once you've purchased the SCL-IPC-SCL flights) You could do La Paz to Cusco overland via the Salt Flats and Lake Titicaca then get a cheap flight (circa US$110 one-way) from Cusco - Lima.

From Lima you could head to GRU, which would be a good base to see the Falls and Rio, albeit both are in seperate directions, return flights to GIG are pretty cheap using TAM. You'll need to head overland to see the falls. BA have a flight from GRU-EZE which is part of their LHR-EZE service. Then the short hop from EZE-SCL. You could of course, do this in reverse order.

To also save the hassle of going ATH-BCN-IST-MAD (and helping reduce segments for the S.America bit) you could always go from LHR-ATH, then go via the Greek Islands to IST overland/sea/air, i'm not sure if it will be quicker to go to IST via Spain having not done the journey before, however i suspect despite the reputation of Greek/Turkish relations there must be a cheap air, or ferry service to IST?!

As for crediting to FF Programmes, i have no idea. But luckily many people here are experts of yielding as many miles out of a trip as is feasibly possible.

I've just got back from my first RTW and than planning stage as exciting as it was turned out to be frustrating as the more I looked into different destinations, the more destinations it seemed i wanted to visit... But it is ultimately very rewarding.

I agree also on the use of flight coupons in SE Asia and S. America.

Iguazu Falls isn't served by any OW airlines, so that part should be planned as separate air tickets or an overland jaunt. There are airports on both the Argentine and Brasilian side of the falls, so one thought would be to save OWE coupons by flying AEP (domestic airport in Buenos Aires) to IGR (Argentina side) then IGU (Brasilian side) to Rio or Sao Paulo. Then use your first coupon in SA to get to Lima for your Andes/Bolivia bits. Domestic and ground transport in that area will be a more effective use of your resources, followed by LIM-SCL or LPB-SCL, then Easter Island, then onward.

For example, MAD (IB) EZE (surface or AEP) IGR//IGU (domestic/surface) GIG (domestic/surface) GRU (LP) LIM (domestic/surface) CUZ (domestic/surface) LPB (LA) SCL (LA) IPC (LA) SCL > onward. (4 OW coupons in bold.)

ATH-IST is around USD200 or less, so I would also look at an open jaw there too, which would give you a whole second round-trip in Europe rather than using 2 coupons zigging and zagging. Russia? Morocco? Scandinavia? Numerous possibilities.

Got a reply from OneWorld and the date IS a known problem in which they are working on.

I am not too favourable with the purchasing of additional segments on the LONE4 since it is uneconomical (Is it? :confused: ). In SAM, I should be able to get shot hop LAN Pass flights to tie me over for ~USD$100. In Asia, I dont really have anywhere else to go on this trip. In Europe, maybe a weekend in Rhone/Bordeaux/Burgundy would be nice.

christep: Point taken on the KUL-HKG-SIN. Perhaps a few days in another location... :D.

sdorling: Yes, this trip only, although the 3 months could easily blow out. Thank you very much for the SAM suggestions and since I am on the bench at work, it beats just surfing the web. The Europe angle might work...depending on the time constraints.

You guys are really really bad :D. Now I have another place to vist in Asia and Europe!!!

the date issue has been fixed and a new version is availble for download.

there is still the problem of land segments counting

When trying to check the Fares, I get the error "1-Jun/2006" is not a valid date. Looks like they didn't fix everything
