European segments on rtw
 

Anyone have any suggestions for a European destination within a rtw that already has one of the long-distance destinations (Cairo, Dubai, etc)? In other words, I´m looking for an interesting destination within oneworld´s definition of Europe that will yield some mileage but somehow has escaped the attention of the rule makers.

1. Morocco from Britain. (pretty far)
2. Moscow (if you can get a visa)
3. Greece or Turkey (from Britain)
4. The Canary Islands from Madrid

They should all fit the bill.

Morocco and Greece are on the LHR restricted list. AFAIK the longest LON legs on the open list are TFS and LPA in the Canaries.

MAD-DME, MAD-CAI, and MAD-TLV are also okay, so you can go LHR-TLV-MAD-TLV-LHR. But if you want to use the LHR-Gulf flights, then you'll need to openjaw to MAD for other long-hauls.

As is Russia.

I have tended to just do LHR-IST-LHR or LHR-ARN-LHR (I think the furthest you can go in a day and get back in time for the flight to CAI) if I just wanted to get the best combination of miles and convenience (same day turnround). Otherwise if you actually want somewhere to visit then it really depends on what sort of place you would find interesting.

LHR-HEL-LHR is an option as well, with a bunch of daily flights both on BA&AY, it's quite easy to do as a oneday turnaround, providing decent mileage as well.

Can you still do LHR-DXB or LHR-CAI as well?

In the OP, he says he already has one of those, so no.

Cleaning up the line breaks etc from the rules, here's the rules:

It's been asked before but I don't think answered definitively: does "only two free segments" imply that one could pay for another two? Assuming Europe wasn't origin continent, of course.

Vaguely related to that question, I've had airlines let me designate the "extra" segments (designate a couple of short ones and buy coach seats) while others insist the extras must be the last, chronologically (Qantas' idea.) I don't remember anything in the file that pontificates on that, so I'd guess it's up the the airlines.
