suggestions for last AONEx sector?
I've got a LHR-CAI hanging around, due to expire in a month or so, and I've never discarded the last sector of an xONEx before, due to various scare stories. Given the recent price changes, using it to start a new ex-ME xONEx doesn't seem that great an idea.
I am considering changing it to a LHR-BAH, and then staying on that a/c all the way back to LHR :) Presumably changing the routing would cost me just the re-issue price (e.g. $125 or so), or are the pricing changes likely to catch up with me? Also, the TPs in doing this could be useful. Any other ideas on what to do with this? I guess this is/will be a common problem :( |

I guess this is/will be a common problem :( Have you considered (although I don't know TA or GSA situation) starting the next xONEx from Qatar? The pricing is certainly better than CAI. I am in the same boat as you my last sector ends in CAI and is open dated at the moment. Still mulling it all over in my head. I too would be interested to hear what others have to say on this matter. Pricing changes shouldn't have any effect on this change just the 125 US and any difference in taxes between BAH and CAI |
DOH rather than BAH
I'm in the same boat. Rather than doing LHR-BAH, why not LHR-DOH (Qatar)? It's the same BA plane which stops in Bahrain, but, despite being further from LHR, is much cheaper for starting another RTW and gives you more mileage.
As they're both in RTW "Europe" you can change your existing CAI to DOH for a change fee without re-issuing the ticket or paying a fare increase as long as you have already flown the first internatonal sector on the ticket, which you clearly have. |

Just to clarify the OWE rules (and these do change periodically), most OWE origins require return to the country of origin. One of the exceptions is Middle East, which allows any other "Middle East" country as the end point -- but not Europe. Without this rule origin CAI would require an end point in Egypt (and CAI is the only city served by OW). But the rule is for any Middle East destination, thus the ability to change the ticket to go to Qatar or wherever instead. The issue isn't the change fee for a re-issue, but rather where the endpoint can be. In this case the rules are rather advantageous.

Many thanks for the clarification.
Are there any other areas where this advantageous arrangement applies. Presumably US & Canada is one? |
