Alliances ranking

Interesting graph from a new tool launched by Google yesterday (see here). It seems that on the web Star Alliance gets roughly 4x as many searches than either oneworld or SkyTeam

'Tis for me; Fascinating that on a "normalized" basis, more people from Singapore and NZ search oneWORLD using google!

Notice how little people in the Australia and New Zealand seach against Sky Team. Most people I know of in Australia don't even know who Sky Team are!

I suspect the high numbers of Singaporeans, Kiwis and Australians search again Star may also be partly due to the Ansett incidence and the continual rumours that SQ might start up a new carrier in Australia, etc.

Finally, remember that the figures are normalised so you would expect countries with small populations dependent on air transport to make their way up to the top of the list.

To be fair, there are quite a few good airlines in Sky Team. AF, CO and OK are all considered to be very good airlines. The lack of any South East Asian airlines however takes it off Australia and New Zealand's radar. That may change should MH decide to join.

AF I have flown....I would stick by my B grade for that. CO is good for America but compared to the rest of the world is B grade....cant comment on OK never travelled...
the problem is that ST have no stand out Airlines OW has QF/CX/BA I know I will get flamed on the BA/QF bit but I think they do offer a premium product not in the league of CX but nonetheless very good, *A has SQ/TG/NZ...
ST has no airlines in that league....

Not sure I would agree with that one. I think AF is as certainly as good as BA - particularly in recent years.

I found the service of AF terrible....I have only flown them once and it was a relativley short segment LHR-CDG it was rude almost to the point of AR/IB standard :D ....but when compared to BA they really fall down...I find the service on BA to be some of the best I have had....while obviously the Asian carriers are still a notch up on BA service...sometime Cx/SQ can be a little stiff in the delivery....which is where I like BA they are genuinely friendly in their delivery.....there food isnt that great though...

I've researched this a bit more ans I am not sure the information presented is representative. I believe it looks for search incidents containing the words requested.

Try this link: staralliance, oneworld, skyteam.

or this: star alliance, one world, sky team.

You are of course correct, although I suspect that Google counts the words as a continuous block between sentences.

I suspect that "Star Alliance", "SkyTeam" and "OneWorld" would be the appropriate way to look considering ST and OW don't have a space in the middle.

Unfortunately the addition of the requisite double parentheses appears to make a difference:

I tried several permutations before posting; having a close look at the way the resultant URL's were structured.

I guess it's similar to that old one about statistics and lies.
