Best OW MOW to NYC

Whats the best OW service a) in Y and b) in J from MOW to NYC?

What if you take BA out of the transatlantic segment (I would like to earn AA status points)?

Excluding BA, probably the best J is on AY. Their Y seating is high density, and the best Y would be on AA (probably via LHR). Chances are AY has the best schedule and least connecting time (I haven't checked, but AY has a tight hub at HEL).

I would also suggest IB with their new lie flat business seats as AA's won't be installed on the 777s until early 2007 (at the earliest).

Moscow to NY via MAD is rather the long way.

I concur that AY is perhaps the most direct OW routing.

If you've got some time on your hands (and are feeling brave) you could always take the Aeroflot CX-codeshare MOW-HKG and then the CX HKG-JFK service.

It would require an overnight en route (as most non-BA transatlantic itins would) but if you really like BA's J-pods, you could fly MAN-JFK on the AA codeshare of BA's 767.

To be reasonable, it's really between AY and BA...AY has the best schedule, and also prices, I might add, for you..many Russians use HEL en route to NYC. They also have new J in almost every MD11 now so the product has also somewhat improved.

AY has 34" seat pitch in Y compared to BA's 31".

Really? Did AY increase the Y pitch with the J seat refit? Some of their other planes (not MD11) have 29" pitch in Y -- really tight. That is great news if they have improved the long-haul Y product (not that I ever expect to fly it).

Leisure flights with Boeing 757 have that 29" pitch.

Whats the source for 34" pitch in MD-11's?
I've never heard of it and I suppose Finnair would have somekind of promo like TV spots for this 34" pitch also.

I think the only carriers offering 34" in Y in Scandnavia are Thai and Malaysian.

So what is the seat pitch of Finnair in Y? Is it greater in the front on the narrow-bodies (because the size of the C cabin is variable)?

Haven't flown in a Finnar MD11 in the back recently, but few years ago it was rather tight, I'd say 31" or something, maybe an inch or two more in the first economy section.

"The seat pitch on Boeing MD-11 aircraft is 127 cm or 50 in. in Business Class and 81 cm or 32 in. in Economy Class"
