Racking Up Miles: Asia Better than South America

I have done several DONE04's. Usually do South Pacific, arriving or departing via Asia. Have been contemplating hitting AKL via South America (SCL) instead of HKG. But it seems there are fewer options for racking up miles in South America vs. Asia (i.e., HKG-CMB/DEL).

Comments/Experience?

SCL-CCS if you are brave, and SCL-IPC if you are traveling the right day of the week, are 2 long routes in SA. But there is no advantage in avoiding Asia if you are flying SCL-AKL, as you still must buy a xONE5 (if not via Asia you must go SYD-JNB-Europe so you wind up buying Africa instead of Asia; and in Africa there really aren't any long mileage runs.

Actually, what about CAI-BCN-EZE-SCL-AKL-SYD-LAX-LHR-CAI. That would be xONE4.

No it wouldn't - it's not a valid routing because you're not going round the world.

Before you start arguing that it is going RTW, just polar instead of equatorial, the OWE rules do specify that you must cross the Pacific once and the Atlantic once. Your routing crosses twice for both Pacific and Atlantic; perhaps they'll sell it to you as a double OWE (for double the normal price). Obviously if you really want to do this, you can -- using 2 separate tickets.

There are two new LP "direct" flights that could be used to increase mileage or possibly save a flight on a xONEx itinerary:

LP 605 LAX-LIM-GRU
LP 604 GRU-LIM-LAX

4x weekly, starts Mar 22
