Upgrades on QF using AA miles?
 

Is there any method to get an upgrade on a QF LAX-SYD flight using AA miles? AA says that even if you use their codeshare flight #'s, you still can't upgrade because AA has no allocation of biz class upgrade seats. QF says you have to be a member of their program. I've gotten an op upg before due to a maintenance problem on one of the three flights from LAX-SYD, but that was luck that can't be reproduced easily. :)

I live in STL, making AA a reasonable choice as a usual airline; back when I lived in SJC I used UA instead. It's making me want to take on the hassle of UA for my Int'l flights.

You can't use AA miles to upgrade on Qantas.
