Rerouting / Reticketing --- Allow Adequate Time
I am in the midst of RTW ex-CAI. My latest flown route was MIA-JFK-NRT-HKG-BKK. However, due to a schedule change, I had an involuntary rerouting to MIA-DFW-NRT-etc. in order to make the last flight of the day from HKG-BKK. Since I only had 13 segments left on my RTW, I thought reticketing would be a breeze, and assumed the ticket had already been set up. WRONG!!!!! I got to the airport in MIA yesterday 1-1/2 hours before departure. Ticket agent was on the phone with Tariffs for 45 minutes, meticulously reading every segment's tax, etc. Computer was able to print out a paper ticket (still can't to E-ticket for certain airports; i.e., CMB).
Agent had to rush escort me to the head of the security line in order to be one of the last PAX to board the plane.
In short, I guess I should have verified that RTW desk had set the itinerary up for ticketing in advance. Just assumed it was ready. I should have known better. I had similar event happen years ago. I probably should have gone to the AA city ticket office (only 10-minutes from my home) before departure, but with holidays, out-of-town guests, etc.....
