Qf Argh!
Of course I know it is very hard to get QF availability... Looking at LAX - AKL and what do I see?
The date I want, QF26 (the nonstop) U0 - no availability But if I decide to go to MEL on the same date, I can get QF26, with a stop in AKL, U1! ARGH! I'm not really expecting a response, just venting.... I keep thinking that there must be a way to book it and then simply get off in AKL, but I know that'll cancel out the return. Oh well. |

I had a similar situation with D seats a few years back when QF100/101 followed the same routing as the new QF25/26. D was available for MEL-LAX via AKL, but D0 for AKL-LAX. I was planning to travel BNE-AKL-LAX on a DONE4, but instead had to go BNE-MEL-akl-LAX.
I was waitlisted for D on AKL-LAX for a few days, but had to drop the waitlist when the ticket was issued since you can only waitlist a sector if you have a confirmed alternative on the same routing. This is quite common for awards on through flights and happens on flights to LHR and FRA quite regularly. |
This is the reason that I attaing PLATINUM every year. I find that status does open award seats up as the people in the US office will email MEL office and more often than not they will open up a bus or first award seat for me.....

I've noticed that QF26 is showing an unusual amount of U availability on the LAX-MEL route this summer. It doesn't show up on the LAX-AKL segment though.
There are a few days with Z space open on the SFO-SYD flight as well. |

Currently, 1st Jan has F on QF94 LAX-MEL, MEL-LAX has J on the 30th (QF25). FWIW, The QF26 for MEL starts on Thursday 26th January, QF25 MEL-LAX starts on Saturday 28th January. As such it's a 'new' flight and for the time bing there may be greater availability until the seats get snapped up. |

At least your awards are more flexible than QF awards! |

Yes, and I really appologize for my NA-centric assumption. |
