The jets at DUT were always a dicey proposition. Reeve's YS-11 was the perfect plane for the route, albeit I think it topped out around 200 knots so not exactly a lightening bolt.

My Aleutians experience was nothing but smooth calm conditions in the Pen Air flight with good vis and the return on the Rusty Tusty being glassy smooth and completely clear skies. Can't believe it is anything but that..... (others have disagreed though).

Girdwood has a youth hostel(all welcome)
Gardyloo your knowledge is awesome, considering I don't see AK in your profile
I to miss RAA,I'll never forget my first flight to Shemya and as we're taking off from Adak the pilot announced say goodbye to civilazation.
They're really trying to turn Adak into a tourist destination now.
To bad the airfare is cost prohibative,as I think the Aleutions are a trip.

Third shunt (walked away all three times) on the chain some years ago got me thinking I'd spent enough time flying around through fog and mountains out where the storms are born. Wife's job got transferred to SEA so I went along. I miss the Aleutians - a little - but figure I've paid dues and there are an awful lot of airports around the world that I haven't seen yet. But RAA-RIP in my profile refers to Bob and Dick's Airline.

I think the Aleutians breed special people. Adaptable, friendly and a love of remote places in beautiful surroundings (remember, I did say I've only seen it in good conditions!) - either that or they just love cutting up fish.

With our week in DUT, several of the locals took us under their wing and either spent time showing us around, taking us home or just being nice (since we did stand out from the crowd being the only ones walking everywhere). Made it a memorable experience. Now, just to get enough AS points so I can actually get back there again.

Yes I know Bob and Dick's airline, having flown it many times on the chain.
Also depended on them for the mail and the only sight of females when staying on scenic Shemya.
Three times and walking away that's awesome.
