DFW to Phuket Help

I've got a friend who is taking a construction manager job in Phuket in the next few months. My wife and I would like to go see him sometime in the next year or so. Also interested in stopping in either Hawaii, Tahiti or Australia. We both have a couple thousand AAdvantage miles, and are looking for carrier, itinerary help with our routing. Any advice and info would be appreciated.

Your best bet would be to use one of the OW mileage awards which allows you to use AA + at least 2 other OW carriers.

Some bad news unfortunately: Not really possible to get to Tahiti without paying a lot of miles for backtracking, assuming QF flies there using its own metal. HKT is not served by a OW carrier so you'd have to get to BKK and pick up a flight from there (quite cheap). You can go U.S.-HNL-SYD/BNE-BKK-HKG-U.S. or more. Just depends on how many miles your award permits you to travel.

Actually you could do PPT as part of a Oneworld award; since the distance is only calculated from stopover points, you could do:
DFW-LAX-HKG-BKK (as close as you can get to HKT on oneworld metal).
BKK-SYD-SCL-PPT
PPT-SCL-DFW
for 120k each in economy or 150k in biz class

Or Australia:
DFW-LAX-HKG-BKK
BKK-SYD
SYD-LAX-DFW
also for 120k/150k

Hawaii would be slightly cheaper at 100k econ/130k business
DFW-LAX-HKG-BKK
BKK-SYD-HNL
HNL-DFW
