Refund for AONE3/AGLOB34
 

What is the process for refunding AGLOB34/AONE3 tickets? Do I have to send them back to Cairo, or can the AA RTW desk issue the refund? We bought tickets in December departing in May, but our plans have changed and won't be doing any of our trips this year (Papua New Guinea and Libya are out, Mongolia and the Caucasus are in). The other reason I bought these tickets was to requal for QF WP, but I'm going to do that much cheaper via YUP fare runs here in the US ($1150 for WP!).

I've only refunded airline issued tickets (not TA issued) and in that case it can be done at any airline ticket counter. The ORD FL might be a good place to ask if you happen to be passing through ORD, they are very good at optimizing things like this. I'm not sure if the cairo agent is considered to be a TA, in which case the refund must be done by them.

What routing do you use to get 1200 SCs for WP requalification on YUP? That seems impossible on the old system (few flights over 60SCs) but maybe easier after May 25. Congrats on finding it, that must have taken a bit of research (or a good computer program).

I am afraid you need to send it back to CAI for refund. TA issued tickets are only refundable through the same TA because of the commisson involved. Airlines could only refund airlines issued tickets. EMECO, although GSA for AA, is considered as an agent.

Don't forget there is a good amount of commission rebates outside of the US. You could easily get 5-7% back when purchasing through a TA. If the airlines were to allow refunds of TA tickets, you could do a profitable business buying and refunding tickets. ;)

In stead of a refund, you could use it as a credit against a new AA ticket and get a MCO for the residual. Only AA could do that as no TA would touch a ticket from another TA. Sometime the airlines would check with the issuing TA first before allowing this, but at least you don't need to send the ticket back.

I sent the tickets back to CAI, and they said they have to send them to DUB for the refund... so does that mean I'll get a EGP->EUR->USD refund? Or will they do direct EGP->USD?

They should refund you in whatever currency (and with whatever amount) you were originally billed.
