Ticket Re-issue Question...

I have a 19 segment DONE5 which is ticketed and in my possesion. (First flight is CAI-MAD on Sep 5 '05.) I would like to add a 20th segment, which would end up being coupon #5 of 20. (The flight does not make the ticket off-side as it would be my first of 4 permitted flights within Africa.) I presume this will cost me $75?

The second part of this question is where shoud I try to get the ticket re-issued? The original is an Emeco issued hand-written ticket. I am currently in Bermuda and I won't be able to have it re-issued without a lot of huffing and puffing in Bermuda. :( My options as I see it are:

a) Wait until I can get to a "knowledgeable" and experienced RTW ticket office/airport during my first trip through LHR in mid-August.
b) Wait until my last stop (12 hour layover) in LHR on my way from DXB to CPT. At this point, I will have 4 of the 20 coupons used (including the LHR-CPT leg) if that makes any difference to the re-issued ticket being hand written or not.
c) I will be going through YYZ in early July, and could stop at the AA desk there if it will be quick. I will have a two hour layover. Not sure if this is enough time.
d) Have the ticket re-issued in CPT upon arrival there. Time will not be a huge issue at this point.
e) Alternatively, can I call the AA RTW desk, have them make the change, and then go to a ticket counter with the PNR to have the ticket re-issued?

Thanks for the advice.

Best for you to reissue the ticket AFTER your first flight has taken place.

Do not call AA for reissue.. they will make a big mess out of it. Go to either BA or Cathay Pacific for your reissues.

Find time somewhere along your journey where you can spend up to 2 hours at either an airport ticket counter or a city ticket office. Any airline should do. As a hand-written ticket, it will probably be a time-consuming re-issue, especially if they have to hand-write the new ticket. In my one experience, even if you have less than 16 segments left and the flights are all e-qualified, they may still re-issue as a hand-written ticket.
Others here might have more specific advice as to which airlines/airport/cities can do this most efficiently. The experience I just mentioned was with BA at CDG for a ticket originally issued by AA. Friendly, just time-consuming, and I don't think it was because of incompetence.

When you are ready to reticket, send Emeco the information re flights you have flown, what is left, and what you are adding. They will send the info to Ireland for AA to reprice. AA then prepares a ticketing mask; it takes about 1 minute for an airport agent to issue the ticket. Do this after 4 segments are flown so that the new ticket can be machine printed.

I had a ticket reissued at the Charlotte Airport this way last year. The agent needed no knowledge of RTW pricing; it was all prepared for her. Worked like a charm.

WHOA! GOLDEN ADVICE! I called AA rtw desk to add a segment to my Emeco ticket (before travel) and the desk said they couldn't "see" it so I'd have to take it to ATO and have them deal with it. ATO (LAX) claimed total ignorance of OWE's but eventually (10 hours) handed me two machine printed tickets (thus avoiding the 16-segment limit). Now that I want to reissue it again, rtw desk is telling me I don't even have a valid ticket. Wish I'd known how easy it would have been to ask Emeco to field my request.

How long are you to be in CAI?

My experience is that EMECO is excellent at doing reissues. Last year, I went straight to their office in Cairo from CAI and they delivered the reissued to my hotel the next day (along with a large wad of cash that was a refunded extra Asian segment).

I would stornbgly reccomend you let EMECO handle it if you have the time in CAI.

I'm such a fan of theirs that I'm thinking of naming my first born EMECO!

I think that would work out wonderfully. We should be in Egypt for about 10 days. A few days in CAI, and then a trip to the Red Sea to explore some of the underwater attractions.

I will visit EMECO on my way into CAI, and then pick up the ticket on the way out.

Thanks everyone for helping out!

You've got plenty of time.

I would e-mail Ms. Kamal in advance, telling her when you will be arriving at CAI. She can send the info to Dublin so that the ticket mask is active at your arrival. Then all the EMECO agent has to do is write-out the ticket.
