Rest stop during a mile run
I am thinking of doing IST-xLHR-xDXB-xLHR-SYD... in J (have access to F lounges), which is a bit longer than the longest stretch I've flown in the past. I have no interest at all in a DXB or LHR stopover, but since I'd like to fly LHR-SYD with BA I find it hard to schedule an overnite (albeit <24) layover in LHR, as a 'pit stop' to rest for a while.
So, my one option seems to be to make LHR a >24 paid stopover, and, ...err, enjoy it, or just keep flying IST...SYD, which sounds excessive. Anybody done this MR and survived to tell the story? :) |
Don't do it, simply too much time on a plane and the vibrations eventually seep into your body. The longest stretch I've flown is LIS-LHR-NRT-HKG-LAX-ORD with <3 hours between flights, and it was getting intolerable (despite being in F with sleeper seats for the middle 3 legs). There really is a limit to how many hours you can spend on a plane before your body rebels. You should be able to manage DXB-LHR-SYD though, so doing an overnight at DXB instead of LHR is an option.

My longest was LHR-JFK-LHR-DXB-LHR-NRT-HKG-MEL - only the first in F the rest in J. I can't say I was particularly chipper by the end, but I wasn't dead :D
Make sure you enjoy the amenities which may be on offer (eg massages, cabanas in HKG, etc..) and walk as much as possible when you can to get the blood moving. |
Second that - walk as much as possible. My longest was akl-sin-bkk-sin-ewr-sin-bkk-sin-akl-lax-sfo (trip report & part 2)

I'm extending the stretch to ...-xSYD-PER, so will heed the above advice and take a break in the middle (LHR). Viajera suggested the Victoria & Albert but I will ignore that and go for a pub crawl. |
My longest is 32676 miles: hkg-yvr-jfk-yvr-dfw-anc-dfw-ord-lax-lhr-cai-lhr-hel in a mix of J and F with the only breaks of more than 4 hours being in YVR and the overnight turnround in CAI where I simply stayed in the departure hall. Trip report in 3 parts here:
