RTW transcontinental sectors

I apologize as i'm sure this has been asked numerous times. I was just wondering if for international flights such as CX's hkg-yvr-jfk and QF's syd-lax-jfk:
1) If no stopover is made in yvr or lax portion of the trip, does this still count as the one transcontinental sector permitted
2) If I originate in North America, i am only permitted to flight segments. Does the yvr-jfk or lax-jfk count as one of those flight segments (again assuming that no stopover is made in lax or yvr)

Thanks a lot, i appreciate any input ;)

Answer to both questions - If it is one flight number (eg QF108 or 107) then it is not included in the NA sectors (same applies to the HKG-JFK (via YVR). But if the flight number changes, then it is counted as your transcon.

BTW, if you originate in NA, you get two stopovers, not two segments.
