LAN Compensation Windfall -- Must Be Some Catch
Okay, so I was all set to fly today in Business Class on LAN 901 from MVD to SCL. I only needed a one-way ticket and the J fare was not much more than the Y fare.
So I get to MVD and am told that the flight was switched to a one-class A320 (was supposed to be a two-class A320). I was initially upset until I was told the compensation would include a refund of $135 and, get this, a free round trip Business Class ticket on any medium length route such as SCL-IPC or JFK-GYE. All this was a $435 J ticket. The agent´s English wasn´t perfect and my Spanish is non-existent, but this really seems like a windfall and too good to eb true. I read the info on the voucher slip, which seems to confirm what the agent said, but I am skepitcal as this seems way overboard. Any thoughts? |
Something similar was reported recently, here (post #8). Congrats, and enjoy the good times.

LAN is a class act.....shockingly so compared to the years of cuts, downgrades, and almost hostility directed towards customers here on domestic carriers.
Disfrútelo! ^ |
I spoke to the U.S. LAN reservations line 866-IFLYLAN and they confirmed that I am entitled to the fare difference and a free business class ticket.
I still think it is too generous (not that I'm complaining), but I guess the cash difference isn't really compensation, but money to which I am legally entitled. The free J class ticket is the compensation and very generous at that. I am not sure that getting it issued will be easy, but I may be wrong. LAN is definately a class act and, I as I have said before, the second best carrier in Oneworld. |
