Oneworld Award availability
 

I want to redeem a OW award in Biz, or maybe First (OW130C/OW130F), with AA miles, but would like to check availability myself, before calling AA. Is this possible?

I have access to an availability tool, but I am not sure what class to look for .... is it D/A, just like the OWE? And is it the same accross all OW airlines? The OW award I'm looking for would probably involve IB, BA, LA and AA.

I have since learned that First = Z and Business = U, but that's not of much use to me because these are hidden codes, that most OW airlines do not make available to the public. I can get AA availability, but CX/BA/IB... appear to be state secrets. Will have to call AA, it seems, something I was trying to avoid. Oh, well.

You can check availability for BA and CX by registering with Exec Club and MPC respectively.

The rule of thumb is, book far enough ahead and you should find good availability. One of the problems with RTW awards is finding that availability in the first place though, unless you're able to be flexible with your dates.

Thanks, virtualtroy, but you know, what a PITA it is, having to go through such loops, and it still leaves me with an IB black hole. Not to worry, however, it just means tying up the AA agent on the phone for longer than necessary, or playing phone games, something I try to avoid.


Dunno; hot, I suppose. Right now I'm knee deep in snow in Spain, but will tell you in a couple of weeks when I do ...-HNL-ORD-DFW-SCL, for a week of vino and pastel de choclo. :cool:

You can get Z class availability on IB using the availability tool (the one thats up for 3hrs,down for 5)

Its not that easy though -it doesn't seem to give U class and it only seems to give Z for certain routes eg works for JNB-MAD but not for MAD-GRU!

Even more difficult is that the availability tool is permanently down at the moment. Don't know if he is going to bring it back or not. I don't think there has been word either way.
