They call this an alliance?

My wife and I returned from our European vacation yesterday, flying back to the States AMS-LGW on BA and LGW-DFW and DFW-IAH on AA. Our reservations were purchased and ticketed on AA.com, all under a single PNR. On the outbound trip (to Europe), AA was able to issue us boarding passes for all oneWorld flights at check-in including the BA-operated LGW-AMS flight. However, on the return, BA's agent at AMS claimed that she could not print out our boarding passes for our LGW-DFW and DFW-IAH flights.

Why not? If this is an alliance, shouldn't alliance flyers be able to secure their boarding passes for all connecting alliance member-operated flights at their first departure airport?

I believe that it is a TSA issue, not an alliance issue. If I remember correctly, non-US carriers cannot issue BP's for domestic routes outside of the US. This was mentioned in the CX forum last year, etc.

Edited: Yet the other day, QF in Perth wanted to issue my BP's PER-SYD(QF)-HKG (CX) even with a 16 hour stop in SYD.

What about the same airline not issuing BPs for a connecting flight?

Last year I was flying CX in F (JNB-HKG-SIN) and the F desk in JNB would not/could not issue a BP for the connecting flight (HKG-SIN).

The connection desk in HKG did take care of me and my checked-in luggage so no problems, but as you could see there are still technological difficulties even when it's the same airline, so it's not a surprise when an alliance still has compatibility issues with BPs.

Is JNB handled by Cathay, South African, or other? If it's SAA then that might be the reason why. I frankly dont remember if it was CX staffed or not.

They wear CX uniforms but I believe it is contracted to Swissport (definitely not SAA).
