A couple of questions about the Visit Europe pass:

After much research here, I've found conflicting information regarding when you're allowed to use a Visit Europe pass. Some say you have to have "Paid, Internation travel into Europe," (no OneWorld requirement) while others say "International tickets on a OneWorld carrier" (no "paid" requirement). If I fly from the US to Europe on an AA award ticket (not a OneWorld award, but a OneWorld carrier), can I use a Visit Europe pass?

What is the current rate per segment on the Visit Europe pass, for 0-249 miles? Some say $60, some say $80 (USD). Is that per segment, or per trip? If I want to fly from AMS to CDG, I have to go through LHR, so I'd have to pay for each segment?

you're better off taking LCCs for these short flts. $70 is the price before airport taxes, fuel surcharges, booking fees and so on and so forth. You can get roundtrip tkts inclusive of everything for less than that on FR or 5P.

It would probably be cheaper (and more convenient and faster) to take the train from Amsterdam to Paris.

You can leave from either central Amsterdam or Schiphol and arrive at either Gare du Nord or CDG.

The fare is only 90.50 in second class and €147 in first.

A great thing about train travel is that you don't have to pay the exorbitant airport taxes that can sometimes literally comprise 50% or more of the base fare.

I'd second the train on that route. Thalys is nice.

Definately check into the LCC's (Ryanair, Easyjet, AerLingus). I just bought a ticket oneway AMS-LGW for $36USD all in. No FFF benifits, but it's a darn short flight, and you can't argue with that price.

If you are a glutton for punishment, you can also get a Eurolines bus AMS-Paris (Porte de Bagnolet). It is much cheaper but also much slower than the Thalys.

To answer this part of the OP's original question: I bought Visit Europe Pass tickets in conjunction with an award flight to Europe earlier in 2004. No problem at all. (It was the award for flying two RTs from Boston/NY to California/Florida, so including onward travel past AA's European gateway, in our case LHR, wasn't an option.)

As noted in other posts, just because you can doesn't necessarily mean you should.
