Valid GlobEx?

Don't see many global explorer fare routings on here.. does anyone know if this is valid AGLOB34?

CAI-LHR-ORD BA First
ORD-AUS AA First -- stopover --
AUS-LAX AA First
LAX-SYD QF First -- stopover --
SYD-POM QF Biz (PX Codeshare) -- stopover --
POM-BNE QF Biz (PX Codeshare)
BNE-HKG QF/CX Biz
HKG-NRT CX First -- stopover --
NRT-HKG CX First
HKG-BAH CX First -- stopover --
BAH-AMM GF Biz -- stopover --
AMM-BAH GF Biz
BAH-CAI GF Biz

33930 miles

I'm wanting to fit in DPS (between NRT and HKG stopover), but open-jaw is too many miles.

Assuming that the rules haven't changed from the copy I have, it should be fine. The one thing I wanted to say, however, is that a good friend was thinking of going to POM and asked me about it. I have not been and really didn't have much interest in going. In any event, I began to read a bit about it and it appears to be *very* dangerous. Might want to look into it. Also, I don't see off hand how to do this but you might want to try and get back to HKG from Sydney. There is no first service from BNE and afiak it's the older regional BC configuration. I haven't been on the new (I dont think) so I can't give insight into the differences.

Don't even think about it

I spent 4 weeks in PNG "once". Got held up by raskals. Avoid POM at all costs unless it is a transfer. Having a loaded shot gun held at your head (he did let off a shot to settle any doubts) is not an enjoyable experience. Especially when the booty comes in at $12, a packet of smokes and some lollies. Razor wire capital of the world. Avoid!!!

Yeah, we would be transferring directly to HGU, Mt Hagen, for the sing-sing festival (tour)
Going via SYD is preferred of course but that bumps the itin over 34k :(

The mount, well that could be even worse.

Pack side arm in carry on and remember that chewing beetle nut on the aircraft is not allowed. Please refrain from smoking until inside the terminal?

So many stories to tell about PNG. Like the golf players employing gaurds with bows and arrows to protect themselves, unfortunately the raskals have machine guns and used them during my stay. Kinda like "that's not a knife".

There is no value on life there. I suspect I will never go back to PNG. I dined somewhere (next to Parliment) that had bullet holes still in the wall from a recent episode where a business partner of mine along with all other diners had been held up whilst eating. He neglected to mention that one before we agreed on setting up a venture there. I eventually got so sick I had to get out of there quick and I can tell you I have never enjoyed an aircraft rotation leaving a country as much as this one. I kissed my money and PNG goodbye.

It is a fantastic country with great beauty but there are real risks. I wish you safe travels if you choose to do it. Heck maybe trouble just follows me. Good luck anyway.

Nope. NG is bad news, real bad news. I went on a two month assignment to Port Moresby and Lae, many years ago, before independence, and it was heaven on earth, but a few years after that my company closed operations and repatriated all employees, following several tragic 'incidents', including one road ambush that resulted in the murder of one of our drivers.

If you know how to navigate Virtual Tourist, it can give some good info about funky places. But this is the danger page for PNG and what I first read when the friend was asking about it. Then, of course, I did other searches that substantiated the stories. I dont know what a sing-sing is (other than a prison or something we did at camp) but it sounds like your hands are a bit tied.

Two possible solutions. First, it appears you can get a ord-aus-ord segment for about $250. You could shave the austin routing off and go lon-ord-lax, thereby saving about 500 miles. Second, you might consider doing bne-syd-nrt instead of bne-hkg-nrt. It saves 800 miles and you aren't getting first on CX anyway on the longhaul. You would, however, lose it on the NRT segment.

Just edited to add that you can get a ticket from LAX-AUS-LAX for even less than Chicago. I am showing about $215. If you did that then you could do LON-LAX-SYD and a seperate LAX-AUS-LAX flight. It would save you 800 miles from your original routing. If it were my decision and you had to keep pom, I would route:

CAI-LON-LAX-SYD-POM-BNE-SYD-HKG-NRT-HKG-BAH-AMM-BAH-CAI

Comes in at 33953 miles. Then just buy the Austin trip.

I believe that Ozstamps when to Mt. Hagen last year. He was in PNG for some festival. I think that he posted a trip report. You might drop him a note as to his experiences.

Thanks Carol!

My wife is pretty determined to go to PNG :) She's interested in places which still have traditional culture and has been wanting to go to the tribal festivals there for some time. No plans on staying in POM itself any longer than to make a connection. ozstamps says he's been twice now to the festival and had a great time, but did make security arragements.

Planning on a AONE4 for myself (for extra segments) and AGLOB34 for my wife (she doesn't like flying as much, even in F :) ). I'd have to buy/award the POM and AMM flights separately.

The one odd thing I noticed about AGLOB vs AONE is you can't end anywhere in the middle east on GLOB's (although all the other end zones are the same, eg, end anywhere in africa, s. america, etc)

Bleh. EMECO came back and said this itin was 35900 miles, but on GC it's only showing 33900! What distance calc are they using? :( Also had a similar issue with AA oneworld award calc recently, the mileage came out several thousand higher than the great circle routing..

CAI-LHR-LAX-SYD-POM-SYD-HKG-NRT-HKG-BAH-AMM-BAH-CAI

When I did my DGLOB34 ex-CAI (issued by BA), I double checked the distances with itn, which gives the distance of existing flight segment when making a booking or checking class availability. The itinerary I had was two miles short of 34K miles. Can EMECO send you the itin calculation?

Could it be that one or more of your 'connections' have been interpreted by the airline as 'stopovers', because of the number of hours between flights?

Possibly... on the award, connecting between TIP and CAI requires a 23:40 stopover in London, this may have bumped the mileage.

Not sure about the GlobEx though; all those segments in my itin should be nonstop flights.
