AONE3 ex-MOW
 

I am traveling BOS-MOW at the end of November, and am considering buying an AONE3 to get there BOS-LHR-DME, and a second AONE3 to get home DME-LHR-BOS (I won't be away for 10 days and I don't have time to travel transpacific on this trip). Of course this means my next trip will have to be transpacific in both directions. Here are my questions:

1. Where is the best place to purchase a RTW in MOW? Since I'll be traveling BA on the LHR-DME legs, does it make sense to just purchase it from BA at DME?

2. When I'm ready to travel the transpacific route, can I use my AONE3 to travel on CX's codeshares with SU on the HKG-SVO route? If the answer is no, is U.S.-HKG-LHR-DME my best bet?

OK, it would appear that you want to do two Boston-Moscow returns.

Moscow is an orphan route on 1W, that is only one way in and out, that is BA via London, when it comes to AONEx fares. You cannot use SU aircraft on this arrangement.

The following routes for the two tickets are valid.

1. BOS-LHR-DME-LHR-HKG-North America-BOS
2. DME-LHR-BOS-North America-HKG-LHR-DME

This might be an expensive way of doing it. It would depend on how much time you had available for slight side trips and if you have other business in other places. BA to DME is J/Y configured only so you are not gaining anything by being on a First ticket. If you had the time to drop down to Portugal on the way back from trip one then you could save yourself thousands by buying the special first fare from there.

Out and backs to Portugal to buy this fare are possible. I would need more detail but I think we could save thousands of USD this way, if you have an afternoon or so.

The alternative may be to, excuse the expression, "go to HEL and back" but we can work on that if you give me some idea of flexibility.

Thank you spotwelder. Isn't an AONE3 more expensive in Portugal than in Russia? If there is some special deal in Portugal, I might be able to leave a day early on my outbound, and thus travel BOS-LHR-LIS on ticket one, and LIS-LHR-DME-LHR-BOS on ticket two. Does this work (I seem to recall a rule limiting intracontinental travel before the first intercontinental flight -- or is this one of those only-in-North-America rules)?

Assuming this works, my next trip would probably be BOS-JFK-HKG-LHR-DME-LHR-LIS on ticket two, and LIS-LHR-HKG-JFK-BOS on ticket one (adding in extra segments along the way so as not to let them go to waste). I still think it's worth paying extra for the AONE3 vs. the DONE3 to get F on the longhauls.
