I think that's too general a question. Most everyone here has done that. How about saying a little about your interests/requirements and letting anyone who cares to, speak to those. Meanwhile, you'll find all the general information you have time to absorb in the archives.

Really?? Almost everyone has taken an around the world trip?? I'm asking about the around the world ticket and what airlines you used and specific to those that flew First Class. Any snags?? Also where did you go?

SanDiego1K Oct 31, 2004 9:51 am

You really need to be more specific if you want helpful answers. Look thru the trip report forum for some fantastic write-ups on RTWs. Look at all the thread titles in this forum for the past several months. We've written lots - before, during and after trips. You'll find all kinds of information, including many many routings that various of us have taken. You'll also find a wealth of information on the service in first from the various carriers.

I don't mean at all to be rude in this comment, but think on this analogy - you're asking what is basically a first grade question of people who hold graduate degrees in RTWs. We're delighted to share our knowledge, but you'll want to move up the learning curve first, based on all the information readily available.

Sorry to have wasted you almighty graduate degrees (considering I do have an MBA) with my first grade questions. Geesh, a lot of help you are.

I think the question is CLEAR:

If you have taken an around the world trip on the explorer AND flew first, please post your trip report--period. Is that clear enough????????

Yep, it's clear. Now, for the second time: the type of trip report you want to read, round the world, first class, with all the trimmings, have already been posted, tons of them, get it?, so, please, be a good lad and go read them, and stop being rude to the forum.

texex91 Oct 31, 2004 10:43 am

Rude must be referring to the other poster SanDiego69--now again thanks for nothing. Asked a simple question and get rude answers--you are really a great bunch of folks.

Search Function

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the search function. You will find all the info you're looking for and more if you search.

texex91 - I don't think people are being rude, though given your responses, that's probably what you deserve.

This forum is devoted to discussion of (primarily RTW) tickets on the OneWorld alliance. Asking in this forum "who has used OneWorld explorer?" makes about as much sense as walking into, say, Starbucks and asking "who's ever had a cup of Starbucks coffee?"

If you have specific questions, for example, a comparison of OneWorld versus StarAlliance tickets, or some of the nuances of OneWorld tickets, then by all means ask specific questions (or use the search function). If you want input on a proposed itinerary, ask away ..... However, you need to ask specific questions if you want meaningful responses.

Well said, tt7. ^

It's a good thing I just got here! :D

I'll launch in here:

If you really only want to go 1st (A), you are very limited in route options because many carriers going to the non trunk route cities only offer WHY and Business class. That for a start will cut out all QF Australian domestic flights and about half of their International flights. It also stops you going to IPC for example.

Are you after information on pricing? If so, then there's many ways to get a good value ticket - that's important to most people here.

Some airlines make it very hard to get A class (eg LA) on some routes - even if they fly with empty seats.

Are you after information of seat comfort? There's a lot to read about that. Best seat?

Are you seeking maximum FF miles, status credits, hours in a plane, amenity of airport lounges, ability to use an E ticket, re-issue a ticket, minimisation of airport taxes, what constitutes a transit versus a stopover, who can bend the rules, which is best airline for issuing the ticket, can you get it without buying it in person, name of an agent who is a "friendly", maximum ticket validity, airports with good nearby hotels (for those long stopovers), whether you can do a turnaround on the same flight or even which lounge has the best scotch?

All this and more is here, but we'll only spend our time commenting if you give us a few leads. Make it easy for us and you'll get the information you are seeking.

If you narrow down your questions, you'll get (better) answers.

I've done my fair share of OW A class RTW trips. As you've edited your original post I'm not sure if you'd already clarified these points but, let's start with a few essentials. Where are you starting and ending and what's the basic objective of the trip?

Holiday, cost savings for a business itinerary, mileage run?

Besides RTWs are not exclusively on Oneworld or any of the other alliances. If you want to know how many RTWs there really are, ask any airline... there are many out there that are not even alliance related... ie (CO/SQ), (VS/NH) etc....

What you seem to want to know is how good First Class is etc. Try www.airlinemeals.net and maybe the pictures of meals might give you a good indication.

Otherwise do a search on the many various trip reports found in FT. But it seems that you've already started similar threads on SQ and STAR Alliance forum.
