RTW On AA

I have read several posts that refer to the advantages of buying Round the World tickets in Bangkok or other cities. How does one to this? Can the start point still be in North America? I have read the * files which seem to be a bit over my head.

Thanks

Head over to the OneWorld forum - there is an FAQ and some other stickies. And most of all some extremely knowledgeable posters who will answer all your questions and more.

I don't think you can buy these XONEX tickets EX a different country from where they are issued. (ie. therefore if buy in BKK, then you must start in BKK).

People in Europe usually buy it from WAW and LIS and then just buy a cheap ticket to get there to start their XONEX.

However this is a bit hard for AUST and NA people

This is wrong information. You can buy an OneWorld RTW (xONEx) ticket that starts in any country served by OW, and you can buy that ticket in any other country. The problem, however, is that you pay whichever fare is higher -- the fare from the country in which you bought the ticket, or the fare from the country in which the journey begins.

Do go to the Oneworld forum, where you'll find a great deal of information (begin by reading the sticky threads).

This is incorrect info as well-- you're thinking of good origination points for BA business class tix-- not ONE tix.

Post the question, we will answer!

To give you advice then I need to know:
Which continents do you want to visit and where do you want to start from.

Do you have any foreign trips planned anyway (as this might be a good opportunity to start)

Which FF programme do you belong to.

Do you need to maximise miles/status or is it just a blast around the continents and not using the full 20 sectors worth of tickets.

For reference, WAW is a place for good RTWs originating in Europe in some classes. The LIS effect (actually all Portugal is for BA First and Business fares, they are not worth positioning out of the UK for the offered WTP and coach fares).

Besides which, if we help then it is your round at an Admiral's Club near you... :)

Ok, DFW or SNA AC it is. I live in Dallas and would want to start here, go to Japan, Korea, UK, Continental Europe (flexible). Prefer FC if I can afford it.

What do you think?

Thanks

Okay, for First you would need an AONE4, which, Ex-DFW would cost you somewhere around $11,000 (look in the sticky in this forum for recent pricing). Originating in North America, you wouldn't be able to get the 6 NA segments you would originating in another continent. Also, you'd be paying alot more than if you could originate somewhere else. Right now it seems as though CMB (Colombo, Sri Lanka) is the cheapest. However, BKK is good and CAI is also quite reasonable.

I suggest you do a search of this forum for some more info, then post a proposed itinerary and everyone will be happy to help you with suggestions for it.
