Travel Agent in Sri Lanka

I was planning a LONE5 fron Australia, but having waded through many threads, I'm considering a DONE4 from CMB. How do I do that? Can anyone recommend an agent in Sri Lanka? Or am I best to use a OW office in Colombo - if there is one?

Thanks :)

I know a good TA in CMB. But I could just call CX for OWE fares. Those fares are usually complex and the prices are the same from TA or CX anyway. CX is the only Oneworld airlines serving CMB.

Thanks for the speedy response. Do I need to contact CX in CMB, or can I deal with the local office? Can I get the ticket sent to me here or do I need to collect it once in CMB. Any other advice? Thanks

You can make your reservation with any CX office, just tell them to price it from CMB. Then they need to queue it to CMB office and you could contact CX CMB for ticketing and pick up. No, you must pick it up in CMB.

Do you actually want to travel from Australia?

otherwise what will it cost you for the syd-cmb ret?
And what price did you get for the Done4 from CMB?

I predict a relatively high rise in Oneworld RTW fares from CMB by next Nov.

I just checked prices. They are here to stay. Same as Bangkok. Not worrthy the detour.

RTW on OW and Star starting Singapore lowest tear Y and C are exactly the same.
RTW on OW and Star starting CMB and BKK!!! lowest tear Y and C are EXACTLY the same in USD.

Having in mind you can buy a Bkk ticket in your local office, while you need to actually go to th CMB office does make a difference.

If ex-BKK tickets can be obtained conveniently without travel to BKK, you have a good point. How is that done? And could you please state the current fares you find for both places (in native currencies)?

Where are you getting your info from?

You can't buy a ex-BKK ticket at your 'local office' unless you are referring that you are already in Bangkok. You can only purchase a RTW ticket from Oneworld from the country of origin and you must depart from that country of origin.

Lowest price in Business Class, 3 continents...in USD.
ex-BKK US$4470. ex-CMB US$4039

Lowest price in First Class, 3 continents.. in USD.
ex-BKK US$6370, ex-CMB US$5604

I think ex-CMB is still cheaper... though yes, it is inconvenient to actually have to stay overnight in CMB in order to get the ticket.

Assuming Guy uses midmarket exchange rates, his prices seem to reflect about a 10% increase since exmo's spreadsheet from January. Did that happen?

Fares went up across the board in Feb this year. Some places more than others ie Egypt.

Sorry, I deleteed the spreadsheet with fares calculations.

I currently work on my RTW but I usually fy STAR.

I've checked ONEW and STAR fares in BKK on multiple ocasions and they were the same all the time. Incl. First class and various "tiers". I've stopped doing that, but I'm sure both alliance follow each other. There's a slight price difference of 100-200USD sometimes between airlines within an alliance, but it's not so important compare to the other savings.

Yesterday I called UAL office in Sg and asked about RTW fare start in Bkk, sorry only checked STAR then. Appr. 167000Bht for 29000 miles. Ticket can be issued in Sg, with the disadvantage of double exchange rate losses for a US credit card (I think I win by not having the Bkk credit card 1-2% fee, but not sure if this compensates the ER hit). Anyway, I can book in Sg (high qualified UAL employee saves a lot of time compare to inexperienced nice girl in TG Bkk offfice) and buy in Bkk, since it's a short 2 hour flight on my way, and I do this route often.

Called CX Sg for CMB ONEW RTW 3 continents. They gave me a price 414,200 rupee after lots of hassle - they first refused to do it, but I insisted they could. Price is EXACTLY the Star ex-Bkk USD price using the Bloomberg exchange rates. BUT you have to book with CX CMB and buy there in person. :( Is it really worthy?

If you're comparing a DONE3 with a STAR fare, they're not comparable. One is segment based, the other is mileage based. Granted they may work the same for the trip you have in mind, but they're different animals. OW has Global Explorer fares that are mileage based, and if you're comfortable with that limitation, you should check them. I don't use them myself, but I think they're cheaper than the xONEx fares for the lower-mileage tiers.
