My first rtw, your thoughts please...

Well, here we go.

I am planning on doing an AONE4 ex-BKK. Here's what I have planned so far and I would appreciate the widsom of other FTers who have experience w/ rtw's.

Not sure what you mean by the (bne) included between SIN and NRT. Do you mean the NRT-BNE-SYD route? If so, then that flight is not available on a xONEx fare since it is operated by JAL and only a QF codeshare. QF operates direct NRT-SYD flights (one daily non-stop, one daily via CNS and one weekly via MEL). You cenrtainly cannot transit BNE between SIN and NRT.

Also there is no direct flight JFK-BKK. You will need to transit either HKG (CX) or NRT and HKG (AA/CX), but that is not an issue with the routing.

Well, you have 3 unused segments so you could do a LHR-DXB turnaround to maximize mileage. Otherwise, you could add segments in Asia, SWP, or EUR. If you want to maximize miles I would buy the LHR-EDI-LHR separately and utlize those segments elsewhere.
I assume this "sin-(bne)-nrt" means you are doing sin-bne on a separate ticket and not trying to transit bne to get to nrt (which you can't do).

Welcome to OneWorld RTW mania! It's addictive. I'm already wondering where I'll buy my next one. How much did you pay for yours?

Keep in mind that you can only have two stopovers in country of origin (Asia).

154N . 3. MAXIMUM 2 STOPOVERS PERMITTED IN THE CONTINENT
155N . OF ORIGIN.

You haven't indicated which are stopovers and which are connections in your list above.

I agree with the recommendation of a LHR-DXB turn. It is a 3 class plane, so very comfortable travel and a lot of mileage. DXB is an interesting place for a couple days - or you can just mileage run it.

Thanks for the input.

NM - thanks for the info about bne, it was a routing that OW timetable gave me.

laska - thanks for the dxb suggestion.

SD1K - the ticket should run around $6766USD, of course that will depend on the exchange rate and any fees. (info off fewmiles website)

Here's a modified plan:

bkk-hkg-sin-nrt-syd-akl-mel-lhr-dxb-lhr-lax-sju-dfw-anc-dfw-sju-jfk-nrt-bkk

Stopovers in hkg & sin, syd & akl, lhr & dbx, dfw & anc

Another question: Since mel-lhr has a change of planes in sin, will that add to my total number of segments?

Comments:

MEL-LHR will count as one segment as long as it has one flight number.

You can add two segments in Australia or Europe. You are at 18 segments, and are allowed 20. However, any OneWorld routing from SIN-NRT appears to go via HKG and thus will be 2 segments, only leaving you one additional.

Do you really want to fly AA from JFK to NRT when you could fly CX from JFK to HKG? CX has the superior product. You might as well get as much pleasure as possible.

I looked up the latest pricing that UserMark has on BKK. It appears to me that the price has popped since FewMiles posted on his site. The price for AONE4 is 311590 baht, or $7615. Taxes and airport fees will add about $400 to $500 to that.

In my knowleage, there is no OneWorld direct flight between SIN and NRT.
Which flight do you think ?
BKK-SIN-HKG-NRT is alternative route. This route is covered by CX.
You can not travel as
BKK-HKG-SIN-HKG-NRT-...NRT-BKK
because of there is maximm 4 segment within the continent of origin.
You can not purchase addtional segment within the continent of origin.

About MEL-LHR, QF9, BA18 are OK. Single flight number are treated as single segment.

There's no NRT-BKK either...

Since NRT is not one of your stopovers I strongly recommend you take CX transpacific rather than AA, so JFK-HKG-BKK as your last three segments. CX F product (even on the A340s now flying JFK-HKG) is FAR superior to the AA product.
