Would anyone be interested in a oneworld RTW meetup/DO?

Would anyone here be interested in doing a real-life DO sometime to get drinks and talk about booking oneworld Around the World tickets?

I’ve been really into frequent flyer programs and optimizing tickets for years, but I only fairly recently started actually booking RTW tickets. I’m now a few tickets in, and while I’ve learned a lot already, there is still a ton I’m trying to better understand, especially around pricing nuances, routing strategy, carrier mix, upgrade strategy, and the practical tradeoffs people make when piecing these together.

It seems like there are a handful of people on here who really know this stuff at a deep level, and I thought it could be fun to meet up in person and talk shop.

I’m based in New York, but I’d be open to doing this in New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, Seoul, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Oslo, Amsterdam, Miami, Dallas, Charlotte, Chicago, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Raleigh-Durham, Phoenix, or potentially elsewhere depending on interest.

If this sounds interesting, reply here or send me a PM. Curious whether there’s enough interest to make a DO happen.

I would be open to the idea as long as none of the participants were content creators or bloggers.

Sounds good...I'm going to see who else responds and then DM you and anyone else who is interested.

Agree with Izzik on that point. I've only flown 5 1st class RTW in the last 20 years, so can't add much to the discussion.

I'm totally fine with excluding bloggers and content creators.

Are you seriously considering making this a DO? Seems more practical for a smaller group.

I can't recall what the official definition of DO is but I'm ok with any number of people. I wasn't planning on organizing a major event, more just a meetup at a bar or airport lounge. I'm really looking to share experiences IRL because I feel like RTW tickets are so complex they might lend themselves more to that than a FT discussion. I also thought doing a meetup could just generally be fun.

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/comm...ertalk-do.html

So in sum:
Gathering: 2-12 flyertalkers for a small event like dinner or drinks.
DO: 12 or more people meeting at one central place like a restaurant, with other events during the period of the DO.

DO (or DOO) A widely used term for large get togethers/parties/meetups. In general the term is reserved for larger gatherings of 12 of more members.
I thought it was 5 or more for a FT DO

I think I'm honestly just trying to gauge interest, and open to whoever might want to come--given the preferences of others on the forum, I am OK with excluding bloggers and social media influencers.

I would attend if not inconvenient. Am far from the most knowledgeable but have done maybe 20 over the last two decades, starting in varied locations. I'm London based. If the last day of this month and LHR T5 works then you can piggy back a substantial DO, a bunch of BA GGLs are celebrating the end of their/an era (major rule changes gutting access to GGL for many) in the concorde lounge.

I need to be in New York the last weekend of the month but I'm not entirely sure about what my plans are later in that week. I expect to be in London, roughly every three weeks or so over the summer and through the fall.

I'd be interested. It sounds like it would make a great addition to those Chicago Seminars (are they still a thing?) Or maybe a stand-alone seminar. I would definitely pay to attend if someone puts it together, but a meetup would be great. Unfortunately I am a shift worker whose schedule is a couple months out, so some lead time would be helpful. There are some YouTubers with something to offer, I wouldn't be opposed with vetting.

Good idea, I'd be interested

izzik Apr 4, 2026 6:19 am

Actually, I'm out. Thought about this a bit more and the risks outweigh the upsides for me personally. Always happy to chat 1:1 but I'm concerned about overexposure. Might be inevitable given we're on a public forum, but I've been on here long enough to see many things die.

Would anyone be open to meeting up in NYC the week of April 19th?
