One World Explore NTP Run Query

Hope someone can help - I've read as much as I can on this but am still unsure.

I have planned an RTW trip using the RTW OneWorld site starting and ending in OSL which I think will yield 14000 NTPs for a shade over £4K which seems pretty good to me.

What I am unsure of is how this would be booked (I can click through on the site to book it but haven't done so yet) as I will want to add my BAC account number but want to earn at 0.5 of distance not spend. I chose QR as the airline option in the drop down (is this the best option?) and the flights are all AY, QR and JL except for LAX-JFK and LGA-ORD sectors which are on AA so I have no idea what these earn??. For the options shown I only selected those which showed 'D' class availability for business as some showed 'I' as well - did I need to do this or is this fare automatically a 'D' bucket fare? Obviously relevant with distance earning rate.

Really hope someone can confirm that if I book this as I have planned it (i.e. choosing QR in the drop down from airlines and D bucket only options) - I will gain the NTPs I think I will. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

The ticketing carrier makes no difference, but it will almost certainly ticket with Qantas. There's very very very long thread on experiences with this over in the Oneworld forum btw.

The only thing that matters for nTPs is the Marketing Carrier (the flight number).

There are some good discussions that may help you over in the Oneworld forum - I am going to move your thread there as I think you will get a better answer.

If you use the online tool it will ticket with Qantas. This is normally sub-optimal if you want to make any changes to the route, including if something goes wrong as they really aren't that helpful. Generally the forum advice is to use AA's RTW desk or a travel agent, this does have implications for the earning though.

If you ticket via AA (easiest for a newbie I'd suggest) then the routes on AA will earn relatively little (perhaps only GBP100/200 equivalent), they also have rules about crossing an ocean with an AA flight or codeshare, that again decimates your BA earning, take a look here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/37531054-post64.html at my CX fare (already earning 12.5% that is then moved onto AA codeshare and earn even less... Hence, if your desire is pure BA earnings you are likely better to find a travel agent who can ticket it without that need to use AA codeshares, in fact such a travel agent can probably help you earn more nTPs. Or try and ticket it via Cathay or another airline.

So then to your main question - yes it is probably possible to get a lot of nTPs if you are travelling on QR and JAL a lot, but I'd be surprised if it was only GBP4k, as that is typically the base fare, and so your taxes and YQ (Fuel surcharge/carrier surcharge) will likely add another GBP1k+ to the fare. Here is another thread discussing the maximisation: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onew...e-ba-ntps.html

Thank you for your advice - do you know why the default is QF - the flight numbers show as AY/QR and AA - the fare total is £4400 on the rtw site of which £650 are the various taxes.

Look here in this forum -- https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onew...e-ba-ntps.html
Are endless options
And here for off topic post on BA earning --- https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onew...-rtwers-2.html

If you are looking for TA to help you maximise the BAC nTP earnings, the FT contact mentioned in the last few posts of this thread maybe of assistance.

Don't know if you've seen any of Matt's videos on the subject, or if you have any interest in moving away from BAEC, but this video might be worth watching. It explains how using Finnair's FFP might be an easier and much cheaper way to achieve OW Emerald using an RTW.

This video is the source of many misconceptions and just irresponsible, in my opinion. RTW fares are not easy to understand, so there is a degree of simplification involved.. but he could at least be accurate. I think he makes the case on how Finnair has a potentially easier path to Oneworld emerald at least. But his explanation of rtw fares is not great.
  • He pushes people towards booking on the Oneworld site,
    • then says he's never used the site for himself,
    • then says the ticketing will be done by the first carrier,
    • then says it might be Qantas ticketing regardless of the first carrier,
    • then he recommends that people call BA to have them ticket and the price that BA comes back with should be the same as the Oneworld site.
  • He says the Oneworld site will flag all sorts of errors
    • not because the site is wrong but rather he implies it's user error..
    • and that users should just keep trying different flights to get past the errors.
  • He equates Global Explorer with Oneworld Explorer, when in fact these are two very different fare products.
  • He suggests that users should abuse ExpertFlyer's 5-day free trial by registering with fake email addresses to maintain free access.

I caught all those but IMO they're quite minor errors. It's worth noting that in subsequent videos he ditched the online too as well as ticketing through BA and ended up going wth a British TA, Propeller Travel, who put everything together quickly and accurately for a 100 pound fee.

The point of the video was to describe a way to use Finnair's to get to OWE via a quick RTW (6 or 7 segments.). It wasn't intended to be a guide to Oneworld's products in depth. His itinerary in that video was something like 25K flown miles, so the difference between GlobEx and Oneworld Explorer are minor. In some dummy bookings on the OW tool I've tried to force a DONEX ticket by adding more miles than 34K, and the tool doesn't like it. I would just keep using the AA RTW desk anyway.

Like so many YT videos, Matt's contain inaccuracies, but look at the comments and you'll see that he's providing useful, if not comprehensive, information to the unfamiliar.
