"Unable to Sell" message on seeming wide open flight
I'm off to Japan next week for work, and we decided my wife would come along and we add some vacation time. I am holding flights TPA-DFW-HND-ITM as part of a DONE4 ex-Oslo on Feb 20th, and checking saw lots of D class availabilty to Japan on various rourtes and days, so thought I'd have no issue making a change to my flight once i score a good option for my wife.
I kept searching for award flights on AA between Tampa and Japan, booking initially on AA flights via DFW at 185,000 miles, but then i saw a flight TPA-LGA; JFK-HND on the 18th using JL5 to Tokyo for just 60,000 miles, so I grabbed that and cancelled her ticket via DFW. Now I have a problem changing my ticket. Looking on ExpertFlyer, I see D2 for TPA-LGA (and it was better yesterday) and D9 (even I9) on JL5. POS is set as USA, where i am. Yet when I called the AA RTW desk, the first agent simply told me that the flight was not available. In fact none of the JL flights out of JFK were available. I hung up and called back a while later. This agent was more forthcoming with info, but said she sees D space but when she tries to book it, both as the JL flight and as it's AA codeshare, the system returns the message "unable to sell". Any tips fo rme here? I am running out of time, and now the domestic flights TPA-DFW are sold out in business, so traveling the same day as her on a differnet route doesn't even look like it will work. Has anyone had success called JL themselves to make booking changes on a XONEX ticket? |
it sounds like you ticketed the DONE4 with AA, so there's zero point in contacting JL to change your ticket.
What you see on Expertflyer should not be taken as absolute availability for your ticket, as there may be underlying rules and restrictions that you are not privy to. |
Note: The POS should be set to where your DONE ticket was issued, so that would be OSL, rather than USA. This is potentially the issue if there is only D2, it can vary by POS.
However, to be clear since you mentioned JL - I've had a lot of problems with this recently as well on AONEs, they seem to have worked out some way to block AA RTW tickets (admittedly I was looking for A class space, but only for a single person). For example recently I tried to do a JL first flight (A class) from HND, so was willing to do one of ~10 destinations that offer the cabin with +/- one week of availability without any joy at all even though ExpertFlyer always showed some spaces. Some agents suggested waiting till closer to the flight time and trying again, though in another experience that did nothing apart from restrict my other options further, as such I would not be looking for JAL and instead consider alternative airlines. And I was checking the JAL website and they were willing to sell in their own A class, and since my tickets are all ex-Japan, it shouldn't be a POS issue as much, since they presumably wouldn't be blocking their home market from tickets. There are more details here, as unfortunately you may be being affected by this problem (has been raised to expertflyer, no fix yet - feel free to raise a support ticket as the more complaints they get the more likely it is they properly investigate): https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onew...king-tool.html |
