Tip: Keep track of your RTW ticket numbers, they may change

On previous RTWs I have had a lot of rejected mileage claims even when I have appealed with my ticket number and PNR.

I've now discovered that AA is issuing new ticket numbers after each minor change, eg an airline changes a flight time or I change a flight date. I've been assuming that the ticket numbers initially sent to me are valid unless I made an actual routing change.

Additionally, AA sometimes only sends ticket numbers for one of the passengers in the email generated after a change. No one knows why. And the call centre can't email it you either ("we have had that facility taken away").

So my tip is that once your journey has commenced, after each (even minor) change, record the ticket numbers you are issued with, and the dates. That way you will be able to find out later which ticket number was used for a given segment.

On the AA website you can get them from this rather obscure place within the "Manage Trips" window (they aren't listed in the regular "manage booking" screens, nor in the "email me" email). Click on the little "I" and a window pops up with your latest ticket numbers.

Just to add a bit on ticket #. I was having trouble getting credit for some AS segments. It was only when I requested credit online using my 3rd out of 5 ticket #s that it was credited in 2 days. It was the only one that came up with the " need more information " and then I could add the flights and dates.

The ticket number has been happening for a long time.
I check all my bookings on a regular basis and when there is a flight number change or something that would generate a new ticket number I print the receipt by the area OP highlighted which shows the new number. If I get an email it is also on it.

Yes, that was my assumption ... until it now turns out that AA are only putting one passenger's ticket into the emails. No idea why. Might be something weird about this booking, who knows.

I always thought you needed to have a new ticket number with any change to flights/routing (see: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...s-changed.html) - but I do think that sometimes AA is revalidating, so you wouldn't always see a new number for a minor time change?

However, I can empathise with SP0 as my received emails from AA are also fairly hit and miss, and I have also encountered the complexity of when an underlying (non-AA/oneworld) airline ticket is changing, but the AA one doesn't seem to require re-ticketing, at least the website "ticketed" date doesn't change when there have been changes. But, I have very rarely, perhaps once, had to retro-claim credits on my rtw tickets, as I seem to be getting them automatically crediting just fine to BAEC.

I just (five days ago) made a date/time change on one of the flights on my current itinerary and retained the same ticket number, no reissue.

Even better, below the "Get Trip notifications>" shown above on the left, you'll find choices to change seats, cancel trip, add bags, and "Show more". Click "Show more" and you'll get a drop down menu, -- one of the choices you'll see is "Print trip and receipt". That will give you the complete itinerary, ticket number, etc.

For flights flown, if you still have a copy of the boarding pass (paper or electronic), see if the ticket number is listed there. It will be the ticket number at the time this segment is flown (coupon is used). If not explicitly written but you have a QR code scanner on your phone, scan the barcode and it should be there (albeit not easy to read).

Look for a thirteen digit number beginning with "001" if you were ticketed by AA, "157" if you were ticketed by QR, "125" if ticketed by BA, etc.

Note if there appears to be 14 digits, the last digit may be a check digit or the coupon number, which you can ignore for mileage retro-claim purposes.

I too went down a rabbit hole trying make sure each segments Advantage miles on an AA RTW ticket were credited. In my case all the segments flown on one ticket number are credited in one activity listing on the AA website (I had Europe travel on one ticket number; then I made a change and got another ticket number so now all the segment's mileage shows up on that ticket number). Also the date of the activity for the ticket is the first segment date. Click on the activity item to see the details of each segment. This was confusing to me since the ticket number changed in Oct. and I was looking miles from segments taken in Nov and Dec. The AAdvantage service desk could not explain how to see my miles but they did open a ticket so that an IT person emailed with the instructions to click on the activity listing.

That isn't working on my RTW booking.

I get these options under Show more: Email trip / Send to calendar / Print trip. No mention of "and receipt". I wonder whether there is something special about an RTW booking or an ex-OSL booking that causes this? "Print trip" does NOT print any receipt information - neither ticket numbers nor fare breakdown. Just the same stuff we see on the screens (and with the same hyphens where the booking does have data eg seat numbers, terminals etc) , plus a bonus blank page at the end :-)

I've been trying to work out how to see what surcharges were built into the ticket price but there seems no way to get that out of the AA website other than briefly at point of purchase.

Does the Status say "Ticketed"?

I doubt it, -- works on all of my DONE3s.

Weird. Yes, it does say "Ticketed".
(I tried to attached a screenshot but the system keeps saying "upload of file failed" even with the smallest file.)

I wonder whether it's because I'm not logged in as an AAdvantage member? Everything else on the booking is visible as usual, but that specific menu item is just "Print trip" with no access to the receipt.

Yes, very strange. You don't have to be logged in, since I credit everything to QRPC now, I don't log in to AA. Maybe try calling the RTW desk.
