JNB-CPT on oneworld?

I used to do RTWs all the time to/from Cape Town (CPT) returning to South Africa through JNB on CX from HKG.
With the demise of BA's partner Comair, is there any way to include JNB-CPT on a RTW?

There's a link between BA and SA Airlink, see https://www.flyairlink.com/en/za/bri...re-partnership
What's not clear is whether this can be used as part of a RTW, e.g. CX HKG-JNB, BA JNB-CPT & CPT-LHR.

Thoughts, please.

It is clear that SA Airlink cannot be included.

Rule 4(j) list the airlines that can be included
SA Airlink is not mentioned in that rule

You're right, as usual. As the BA/Airlink page was very recently released, let's hope that, in the next iteration of OW Rules, they include BA code shares on Airlink, otherwise I don't see any way of flying between JNB and CPT on a RTW ticket if coming from South East Asia or Australia.

QR also took a stake in the airline so we can also hope they'll just join OW and fill the void that Comair left behind.

But non Alliance codeshares are very common, and not allowed in OW Explorer tickets. So unless they join OW, I don't expect there will be a way to get CPT-JNB on the ticket.

Just thinking to myself. I've done 2x ex-JNB, DONE4 & DONE5. Both times, I used a separate ticket to do JNB_CPT-JNB. This route is short and I didn;'t want to waste a segment out of the 16.

In fairness, I've done far less 'valuable' segments than CPT-JNB on DONEx's. It just depends on what you need on the ticket. Typically my low value segments have been inside the US, where the segment allowance is higher anyway and sometimes I might only use 14 of my 16 allowed segments because that's all I need. So similarly, if someone else thinks that they're not really 'wasting' a segment for a flight that might be $200 in business class paid in cash, then so be it.

For a lot of us, the entire ticket is the end goal, but there may be some segments on it that are for other reasons.

Fair enough.
