Why Emerald > Sapphire > Ruby?

Really random, but just got a brain itch about this and can't seem to find any information about it online. When it all began why were Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby chosen in that order? In reality it seems like ruby is the most expensive gemstone out of the three then emerald then sapphire. Anybody have any insight? :)

You are reading too much into this.

Marriott Bonvoy does the same thing. Titanium is second highest level, next one down in Platinum, but platinum is a rarer element than titanium. Go figure.

It's not based on the order of the light spectrum (blue, green, red) either. :)

Yeah, because curiosity and logic have no place here. 🙄

I'd like to see a program use Trellium-D, Dilithium, Trilithium, Latinum, Verterium cortenide, Pergium and the like for names of elite levels.
