Is Cathay leaving OneWorld? No AA connecting flights found

I've been trying to find a flight on Cathay from Minneapolis, and they don't show any American Airlines connecting flights for any route or options, only United and tons of Delta. Are they leaving OneWorld?

CX (Cathay) and AA aren't the best of friends, AA prefers routing with JL in Asia as they have a joint venture. You could certainly make your own way to Chicago or one of the many other CX North America gateways however and get a CX flight from there. Despite being separate alliances, CX does interline with UA quite a bit, so likely why you're seeing those options. I wasn't familiar with DL doing the same but isn't terribly unusual. Airlines are under no obligation to offer connecting flights on their own alliance partners. But to answer your original question, there's nothing indicating that CX will exit OneWorld anytime soon. It was rumored a while back but that's gone nowhere. I've actually expected their close neighbor up the river, CZ to join for quite a while but that also hasn't happened yet.

I just used to use them a lot and they had the AA preferred before showing up and I hate doing a delayed checkin and wait in Chicago forcing me to go to terminal 5 prematurely with all that involved (Ok, the air france lounge sucks compared to flagship lounge, I know first world problems). It's not ideal now and I guess I'll call Cathay and find out but I do appreciate the insight and info.

It's definitely not ideal if you have to do it on separate tickets but you can check in with CX and then go to the FL in T3 for a bit. You have to go clear security in T3, but I've seen others talking about being able to use the T3 - T5 airside bus without issue even if not BA... YMMV, I thought it was for BA pax only but may have changed or may not be enforced. I've arrived international at ORD many times and used the FL after arrival, but still haven't departed from there yet so haven't attempted it personally. Seems these days I always end up departing from either JFK or DFW.

To be honest if it's just MSP-ORD on UA, that wouldn't be so bad on the same ticket. It's a short flight, most likely a $99 upgrade offer if not already in business and your luggage would be checked through, so could just walk over to T3 to the FL until near your flight time to get the bus (assuming you can do you CX check in online as I doubt UA can check you in for them)

The airside bus to ORD T5 is for all passengers headed to T5 and also picks up at other terminals. See:

Where is your final destination? For CX fares filed between MSP and HKG, quite a few connection options are available. Maybe the AA flights do not have availability in the same booking class as the CX one.
Code:

This is quite possible, since I am doing PremEcon on Cathay and that doesn't exist on AA in USA.

Post 1 was ~ 18 months ago.
CX is (still) a Oneworld member airline.

If the CX booking class is E, AA booking class is P if available (not the case in domestic), or else K.
If the CX booking class is W or R, AA booking class is W if available (not the case in domestic), or else H.

Book on Cathaypacific.com and you'll get the 1-stop with AA connections at ORD that you desire. For some reason AA's search engine wants to put you on a 2-stop through DFW and then on AA Metal across the pond to either NRT or ICN and then final (third) leg on Cathay to HKG.

LOL - Mwenenzi thanks for the heads up on the OP being from 18 months ago. I should have read all the posts before posting.
