Surcharges sense-check

I rebuilt the first part of a RTW
was: OSL-HEL-ICN-(HKG)-PER…..
now: OSL-DOH-PER…..
with the rest of the trip (Oz, US on DONE4) unchanged.

For this alteration AA has charged me $465 for one passenger and $310 for the other. This includes 2x$125 change fee.

I was surprised that taking out a country and thereby reducing the airport departures by two caused the price to go *up* by $525. But then I have changed the originating carrier from AY to QR so is that the cause?

These surcharges seem an arcane art. Does this surcharge difference sound right?

Very odd that the charges are not the same for both passengers.

I suggest dummy bookings using ITA matrix to determine surcharges, taxes and fees on both itineraries.

I will see if I can figure out ITA Matrix, thanks.

is there a way to see the detailed fare/taxes calculation used by AA in my booking? I can’t see it in the emails they have sent, nor in the website reservation pages.

In your first email (of eticket) from the ticket issuing airlines, it listed at the very bottom of email Form of Payment, Fare, Taxes, Carrier surcharges, and Total Amount.

I recall on my ex-HND DONE3, Issued by CX. That email was 11 pages long. It contained just about everything.

Having looked back carefully I cannot see one of those, either for the original booking or the new calculation. BA always sent those but it seems AA didn’t.

I have only ever received “Your trip confirmation” emails after the original and any subsequent changes. I guess I will call them to ask for the fare calculation to be sent over - unless there is a way to retrieve the full eticket from the website?

Call and ask for the payment, taxes, carrier surcharges etc... in details in an email or a PDF file. The airlines will comply.
