Getting around fare class D restriction
I suppose a stupid question but D class is not available for one of my flights in January and it is a very long one (DFW>SYD) so I am not going in Premium Economy. Apart from buying a RTW in F, is there any way of getting around this restriction (shame it is not BA as I would use a BA GGL space release)?

QF is VERY tight on D and even C inventory at the moment, still major capacity issues into and out of Australia from many countries. I've seen D on SYD-DFW, but couldn't find any to LAX despite having 2x SYD flights on some days, 1x BNE, and 1x MEL. I saw lots of days with only J for both LAX and DFW when I was looking last month. (Those were for December flights). Reckon it'll get a lot better once they get more A380s back online. I've also seen D on SCL-SYD, if you want to take AA down to SCL and connect.
If you can afford the extra segment, you'll have better luck getting AA 72 or 73 via LAX (sounds like you're going south, so AA73), sure it's not as good as QF, but at least they have wifi available, QF is still waiting on the next gen satellites before they invest, saying 'maybe' 2024. |
Thanks dvs7310, I wouldn't mind at all going via LAX and on AA (agreed not as good but acceptable) but AA also have nothing on 19 January (according to what I interpret on Expertflyer). This sucks.

As above QF flights have high loads. Some aircraft - routes have been changing. With QF only the A380 has F. https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas-...l#where-we-fly Mid January a busy time. Au tennis open (Melbourne) starts 16 Jan to 29 Jan, so very high demand |
A similar question on a QR flight, DOH-VCE. EF has only J9 Y9, no other fare inventory. Is this a place holder flight? Also, what is the deal with CX flights with many fare inventory, but all 0.

Thank you, Mwenenzi good to know and I forgot about the Australian open. Probably going to shift the trip to early Feb where there is availability.

QF8 DFW-SYD is also code shared as AA7262
For xONEx RTW's at times a prime flight (A D L) is not available but the code share is available. With xONEx swapping dates/flights on the same route is theoretically free of charge, but some airlines can charge a service fee. |

Wait, which flight are you trying to book exactly? QF or AA or happy to transit in Doha?

Thanks, dvs7310. That is an interesting way to trick the system. I will keep that up my sleeve.

You could list for it while you make a decision. Revenue management will see it and they may decide to take the money.
