Help wanted to find flights to Guatemala/Belize over new year period

Morning all!

Im looking for some help finding flights from London to central America over the new year.

Wed like to leave London 26th/27th December (no later than 29th) and fly to Guatemala City, returning from Belize City (alternatively Cancun) around 12th January.

Im happy to look at alternative starting points, although the only way Im going to get it past Mr Editor is if it isnt a classic ex-EU and doesnt involve passing back through London after positioning.

The preference would be to have just the one connection. We would consider a couple more if it brought down the cost significantly, but not just for TP purposes.

The best deal I have found is a straight LHR-GUA return (via the US) on AA at 1888. To return from BZE/CUN pushes it up to 2500+, so for that price difference wed double back to GUA.

What we do have in the back pocket are LHR-DFW reward flights leaving 29th Dec and returning 13th Jan. The dates arent ideal, but well keep them if the alternatives are expensive, which I fully expect them to be at that time of year! There is some availability to change to an earlier outbound in J, but the current ones are in F so wed rather not do that.

Thanks in advance!

If you're looking at One World airlines and only want one stop that's a limited selection.... Nothing popping up on Finnair via HEL. I do know Iberia do a direct flight from Madrid to Guatemala so you could take a look at that.

Outside of one world if you wanted to avoid US transit then Aeromexico fly a 787 LHR to Mexico City then its a brief hop to Guatemala, from memory the Heathrow to Mexico City is overnight as well so you're not burning a day

The routes the OP is looking at are not BA destinations, so the advice here is going to be somewhat limited.

On the basis that probably the OP wishes to use oneworld airlines, we’ll move this to the OW forum where there will be wider expertise across the network.

@The_Editor, if you’re interested in itineraries in other alliances, or on standalone airlines, please RBP your post and the new forum mods will be pleased to move it again for you.

Thanks so much - I wasn't aware of this forum, so much appreciated! Yes, I would ideally like to stay on OW

One option for the Belize return leg would be to fly from Chetumal to Mexico City and then MEX-LHR. The CTM-MEX route is operated by both Volaris and Interjet but of course can't be booked on one PNR so an overnight in MEX probably advisable. Chetumal is literally a short taxi ride across the border from Northern Belize or there's an ADO bus.

Thanks - unfortunately coming back from MEX to LON is even more expensive than BZE/CUN, and that's before even taking into account the cost of getting to MEX from Belize! But agreed it's very easy, we've done the Corozal-Chetumal run before

As I'm sure you've already noticed, you're really limited on options in that part of the world using OW carriers. Only AA serves BZE and only AA and IB serve GUA. That area is unfortunately Star Alliance territory or non-alliance carriers. If you want the TPs then you're kind of stuck with whatever AA is asking.

To really pinch pennies on it, I'd get on Google flights and try a few departure points in Europe (think Scandinavia) and look to see if there is anything especially cheap to a US destination then piece together a separate itinerary to GUA/BZE, but frequently US to Central America flights aren't terribly cheap either.
