Visiting Seychelles prior to start of RTW
 

I assume that most of those who were able to ticket an ex-SEZ RTW are planning to arrive just before the departure of their 1st segment. Most of the travel info on FT and other travel sites are geared to those planning a normal holiday in that country. Due to limited OW service from the USA and total travel time, I am planning to arrive only 1 or 2 days before the start of the RTW.
With challenging driving conditions and a cost premium, would it be better to book near the airport rather than on the northern parts of the main island where the up-scale resorts are located?
For those who have already been to Seychelles, any direct experiences that you would care to share?

I was there in 2003. It was easy driving around the island. At that point, the main problem was lack of supermarkets as the previous regime had a so-called state marketing board that was a monopoly. If you're looking for a cheaper hotel, try the Bel-Air. It's up in the mountains, away from both the center and the tourist areas. It reminded me of Fawlty Towers – the owner was a Basil prototype.

I arrive two days before the RTW starts, and booked a condo via AirBnB or one of those on Eden Island, which looks to be close enough to the airport and self-contained enough to enjoy a couple of days without worrying about getting around. Most of the condo rentals there include an electric cart for getting around the island if one doesn't wish to walk. There is a supermarket and restaurants on the island.
