Traffic Rights
Hi Everyone,
I am booking a RTW and trying to book as many flights as possible on AA because I am doing the platinum challenge. Anyway, according to the reservation lady, AA and Finn Air does not have traffic rights when flying from AKL-SYD, SYD-CNS, SYD-BKK, and BKK-HKG. Instead of AA and Finn Air, I would have to take CX and QF (which doesn't earn me any miles or Q-points http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ) Is this true? Alex |
The only OW metal flying AKL-SYD & SYD-CNS is, as far as I know, QF, and I don't think anyone else codeshares on it.
SYD-BKK is flown by BA and QF, and they codeshare with each other, but again I don't think any other airline codeshares. BA in L gets you 25% mileage and 100% Q-points. QF gets you nothing. HKG-BKK is flown by CX (codeshare with AA I believe) and AY using their own metal. AY certainly has traffic rights and in L you 100% miles and 50% Q-points. CX gets you nothing. The best answer is to do it in business class, then no problem with any of them http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by christep (edited Feb 15, 2004).] |
Can I book the code-share flight?
Alex |
I did not realize that one could use EK on a GLOBAL EXPLORER RTW fare. Can someone confirm? Thanks
|
Alex: in principle on a Global Explorer or a OneWorld Explorer you can use code shares provided that the flight is operated by an eligible carrier. Whether there is any availability in L on the codeshares is another matter. But it doesn't seem to be a big problem to get 10,000 miles on AA metal on a RTW - one transatlantic and 3 or 4 segments within N America gets you there.
RTW4: oops, sorry - my mistake - it is Gulf Air not Emirates. Rules here: http://www.hardlink.com/~markdu/OWFiles/ [This message has been edited by christep (edited Feb 15, 2004).] |
any oneworld flight will give you points and miles for the plat challenge. infact you don't have to fly aa at all! regular qualification for aa status does require flying aa but the challenges (gold and plat.) alow any ow flights. cheers, tla |
Dunno if it's for any use here but AFAIK AY has codeshare seats on QF flights from BKK to SYD.

Details of eligible classes for each of the airlines are here: http://www.aa.com/apps/AAdvantage/Vi...artnerType=Air Your point that you can get a challenge without flying on AA metal is valid though. |
For the AKL-SYD leg, LanChile also flies this three times a week - so that's another option if you need to avoid Qantas.
|
If you really need codeshares on SYD-BKK, Finnair (not Finn Air) has one daily: AY5891 and it's operated by Qantas.
BKK-HKG is operated on AY metal 3x per week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). |
