RTW Fares

Through the generous help of other FTers, I learned of the ability to purchase RTW tickets at different prices in different counties. As a result, on a recent trip to Asia, I purchased an AONE3 in the U.S. for about US$8,500, and a second AONE3 in BKK for about Bht 240,000 (or about US$6,000).

I'd be curious to learn what the cost of an AONE3 is in other countries. Other than BKK, where are there other opportunities to save? Are there any places where they are more expensive than in the U.S.?

The US is one of the more expensive places to buy a ticket however, for the first class ticket you bought, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Morocco, the Euro zone countries and a few other places are more expensive.

You can download an Excel spreadsheet from here and check prices for various types of tickets from different locations around the world.

Exmo: could you please post a link to the XLS file or a zip? I am very wary about running an .exe file.

Thanks.

The .exe is actually a self extracting ZIP file. You can open it with WinZip and extract the XLS from there without running the self extractor. However, you can also download a straight ZIP file from here. This is actually about 70K smaller as it does not contain the self extractor code.

Note that the spreadsheet contains macros. These are needed to do the downloading of the currency translations and the sorting of the fares. They are not protected so you can read them (assuming you speak Visual Basic) to see that I'm not trying to erase your hard drive or do other dastardly things to your PC.

I got to tell you, that spreadsheet is pure genius. Any way of finding out when prices change? For example, will this spreadsheet be updated when Cairo fares change? I don´t know who spent the time to creat this but I love it!
I´ve created a similar spreadsheet that calculates miles between airports, but unfortunately it only contains data that I´ve input myself, that I´ve looked up, I´d love to be able to hook it up to some online database that would download all that info, but unfortunately don´t know where I could get all that info.

The prices came from those posted by UserMark here. When these are updated, I plan to update the spreadsheet.

As for mileage, take a look at what Karl Swartz has done with the Great Circle Mapper here. The credits link provides information on the various databases that he has used.
