Flight Classes & Oneworld Rules
I wished I had found this forum earlier. I have booked 5 Oneworld HONE4 tickets for our family in August using AA. Our route is LHR - SIN - BNE - CNS - SYD - HNL // OGG - LAX - XCHI - LHR and the flights have all been ticketed. Apologies but I don't know the shorthand so these questions are a bit longwinded.
1. I paid high season rate as our first segment is in Aug, but could I have done a flight MAN to ??? (somewhere in UK or europe) returning to LHR in April to start off the trip in low season and paying the low-season rate for the oneworld? 2. We didn't really want to include Asia, but realised that there wasn't a direct flight to Australia, so the SIN stopover is counted as one continent. Could I have booked a ONE3 that just had a couple of hours say in Singapore, without it counting as a continent? 3. Our tickets say L class, (we are in economy), but noticed that economy is normally M - anyone know what the difference is? |
Partial answers.
2. No, it would be considered four continents anyway. 3. 1W RTW in Economy is nowadays booked in L (uesd to be M). Both are Economy class, but L may have less availability and may earn fewer or no miles depending on airline flown and FF programme used. Switching the RTW's from M to L class made the tickets less attractive IMHO, but there is little you can do about it (other than fly Star instead, their RTW's are still booked in one of the higher booking classes, often with good availability and full miles earned in most cases). |
I believe the season is based on the first intercontinental flight, an European flight won't change your seasonality. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I would contact AA in Cairo right now, e-mail them your PNRs and ask them what it would cost to change (resp. refund and reissue) your MOWE4 to a DONE4 originating in CAI. The price increase is maybe not yet in place ...

Many thanks for your advice all. I feel better knowing that there wasn't anything I could do about the seasons or continents.
f4free - I have emailed AA in Cairo, but don't hold out much hope there, because we had $4000 of AA vouchers that we used against the purchase price of the Oneworld tickets and I think if we were re-ticketed, the rules on those say we would have to give up their benefit sadly - I have asked though, just in case, as flying bus class would be so much nicer. Thanks for your help. |
