a few quick questions re RTW

Hey folks,
I'm planning a RTW for 2004. I am thinking a Biz class tkt - 3, maybe 4 continent. (NA, Eur, Asia and maybe SWP)

I've looked and looked -- have a few ques.

1) I notice a child fare is 75% of adult fare. I have an 11 yr old son that I am thinking of taking w/ me. Would he get full miles? He has an AA # like I do.

2) I notice on AA's site there are some bonus mile promo's - ie JAL 2X bonus miles on cert flts if in biz or F. Would I qualify for those on a RTW tkt?

3) What is best value of starting place? I will have to start from DFW. Right now CAI is the cheapest, but it costs $$ to get there. All things considered, would it be better to start in Europe ie, Sweeden since I can find a real cheap AA tkt - DFW- somewhere in Europe.

I'm open to ideas.

Thanks to one and all for the general pointers I've picked up along the way.

Happy 2004.

TANSTAAFL - but if you work it right, FF miles comes pretty close.

I can only help with this one. You cannot fly codeshare flights on OW RTW tickets on non-OW metal. Therefore you could not include a JAL/AA codeshare flight - thus no bonus.

Duh - on the JAL.

However - Cathay P has a bonus mile offer too. Go to AA.com to see others.

Would the bonus miles pay out on a RTW. AA has a Transpacific and Transatlantic bonus as well.

just curious.

You could earn the bonus miles if you qualify. Many of the bonus deals (e.g. CX) are based on round trip purchases or certain fare classes.

Your son should get full mileage credit for the class that he flies.

Today a DONE4 ex-CAI is about US$4,000, ex-Turkey and some Eastern European countries is US$5,000, ex-Euro zone countries and Sweden is about US$6,300 and ex-USA is US$7,400. If you have Excel, you can download a workbook with all the prices and a currency conversion capability from here.
