Excel Workbook with OWE Prices
 

I have created a new Excel workbook with the Sabre OWE fares provided here by UserMark. This Excel workbook can be downloaded here. It is contained in a self extracting ZIP file. Just double click the archive and save the workbook to your disk.

This book contains a new feature -- automated download of the desired base currency. You select the currency for which you want to see the fares from a menu and the currency conversions are downloaded from the WWW. Unfortunately, this automation relies on software contained in the newer versions of Windows and Office. The chances are not good that the automated currency function will work with Office 97, Win95 or Win98 or on any system that has not had IE5 or later installed. There is a manual download function that should work in some earlier versions. Read the Instructions sheet first for information on how the program works.

Truly excellent. The basic spreadsheet works fine on Macs too, though I haven't tried currency conversion rate updating.

However, the .exe extension combined with the lack of Mac OS type/creator information mean it won't expand by double-clicking. Mac users who have an unzipping program (most recent versions of Stuffit can handle zipped files, or get the shareware ZipIt) can launch the program and select this file from within it; drag this file on top of the program icon; or (c) in System X, change the file name extension to .zip.

I would be amazed if the automatic download currency conversion worked on a Mac. The manual download conversion might work. If not, let me know and I'll Email you a URL to use to get the needed table. Let me know the base currency you want to use, also.

BTW, I have uploaded a plain ZIP file here for those users who want to save about 60K in the download and who already have an unZIPper or Stuffit on the Mac. As a former Mac user and fan of Ray Lau's initial work, I'll do whatever I can to help out those remaining Mac users.

I have a question about currency exchange. Forex rates differ for buy/sell and obviously most times the vendor will take advantage of this during all the transactions. For the excel work sheet did you use buy or sell rate for each currency.

The currency rates are the average of the median bid/ask interbank market rates (generally based on transactions valued at or greater than US$1,000,000) for the preceding 24 hour period computed at 2300 MET (Middle European Time - GMT+1). Retail bank exchange and credit card rates can be 1-10% higher.

Thanks for the quick reply. A simple suggestion. How about adding the ONE rules on a additional worksheet in the same Exel document! It then covers everything ( almost)

I have updated the Excel workbook with a couple of small price changes that were effective at the end of July in Australia and New Zealand. The self extracting (on Windows) archive is here and the plain ZIP'd archive for those with an unZIPper or a Mac is here. If you are not going to originate in either of these countries, you do not need to download this new workbook as the other prices have not changed.

As the rules change frequently and there are several versions on line, I have decided not to include them with the pricing information.

This is an excellent program indeed. Having never done a Round the world before, the data s a bit overwhelming. Is there a website or a FAQ that walks one through the process? Thanks!
