How much do I love The Pier/Wing.....I have a 9 hr layover in HKG in completing my ONE4. I am sitting in the Pier (have only ever been to The Wing before so thought would try it). Free WiFi, Noodle Bar, Drinks, Espresso (good), fantastic shower, and the staff cannot do enough for you.

Just demonstrates how no other lounge comes even close.

So is the Wing better or the Pier? I have a 12 hr layover coming up at HKG and am looking forward to try one of them (or both). I think I will go into town for a bit, but do hope to make the best use of the much talked about lounges.

The Pier is a comfortable, closed room - think Concorde lounge, but nicer in several ways. The Wing is mostly an open mezzanine, much like being in a hangar. You get to hear all the public announcements and general noise, contrasting with many first-class lounges where serenity is the rule and no announcements at all are made. The decor is basic granite, which adds to the noise and coldness of the place. People like it for the amenities, I guess - cabanas and a sit-down restaurant.

They're quite far apart, and we usually just use the one closest to our departure gate.

You mentioned free wi-fi, but are there computer terminals in either of the lounges? I would rather not have to lug around my laptop if I don't need to, and to get to the net at HKG would be the only reason.

Yes - there are lots of terminals in The Wing and The Pier (rather more in the Pier). I'm talking of the First class parts - maybe someone who goes there can advise on the business class.

Pier v. Wing - Wing is more open but yes also open to PA announcements etc.. Pier is under the departure level so quieter. I was there 10/13 and seriously there were more attendants and service people than PAXs. I may be wrong but seems Pier is always less crowded as near the end of the 60-68 part of terminal.

Haven't been to Wing (assume it is the same)for a couple of years now, but Pier had at least 20 PC with internet access in a separate area (to the right as you enter) near the shower area and toweards the F lounge.

As for marble - my asthetic is much more towards the modern, and although i don't necessarily go for marble, Wing/Pier I think are finished impeccably, nice looking and comfortable seating (more so that Concorde Room), amenities are first rate, and service (as with CX always) very eager to please and nothing too much trouble.

The only possible enhancement I can think of is a MB Spa equivalent amenity.

Classic British understatement. The Pier has about 50 PC terminals available for free use -- wish more lounges were like that! To be fair QF has about 30 in the domestic SYD QF club ... puts the typical lounge with 1 internet terminal in its place.

This was provided for about a year when the Wing first opened (it was on the bottom level) but it closed due to a lack of business (not free but reasonably priced and higher quality than the MB spa at LHR). They even offered an attended bubble bath in the Cabanas (don't ask me any details, my eyes and lips were sealed and I didn't partake).

Actually Sydney QC has about 30 cubicles to work in, but only has 7 PC's available, 1 standing, and 6 in cubicles.

The big new MEL DOM QC has (drum roll) 3, as does BNE DOM QC.
So the Pier sounds like PC heaven.

I like both the Wing and Pier but, at least as to the First side, find the Wing's spacious open design much more pleasant than the slightly dark Pier. I also like the cabanas (Wing) more than the daybreak rooms (Pier). Food seems comparable, though, and the Pier does definitely have more computers.

Noise in the Wing rarely bothered me, though I guess I'm not particularly sensitive to noise.

If only the MEL Intl BA/QF First Lounge had more than 1....as number_6 said, gets put in it's place...

The Pier is just about as good as it gets.

As a fairly regular visitor to both the Pier/Wing and SQ's Silver Kris lounges, CX wins hands down - with one exception. The champagne. Krug v Moet/Lanson/whatever $30 bottle they are serving now. When it comes to PC's, food, other drinks, service and general ambiance it's no contest.

An attended bubble bath? What good is the attendant supposed to be, exactly? How very odd!...

This thread (and these lounges) deserve a courtesy bump. I'm in the Wing at the moment on a six hour layover between the arrival of my SIN-HKG flight and the departure of my HKG-AKL flight. I only managed a few hours of sleep last night, so I got a cabana and crashed for about four hours, then had a nice hot bath.
